Sadia woke up and yawned, sitting up. "...oh no! I'm going to be late for my first day at work!"
She quickly got up and got ready, barely grabbing a granola bar as she ran towards her job. With the fake memories Teresa had given her paired with the fake life Monica dropped her into, it was just another day for Sadia.
"Ugh, why is my hair always such a mess?" Sadia muttered to herself, trying to smooth it down as she got on the bus. "Wait! Did I lock the doors? Ugh, you'd think I'd be better at having an appartment by now..."Sadia ran in, smiling sheepishly. "Good morning!"
"Good morning, Miss Jones," the receptionist greeted, raising an eyebrow. "I'm glad you made it. The supervisor will show you around and get you started."
Sadia smiled and nodded. "Okay, thank you."
She walked inside.Sadia took a deep breath and glanced at the computer after the supervisor left, very confused. "How does this thing work...?"
She poked the screen and nothing happened. She peeked over at a coworker and saw her moving the small thingy, so she tried that. The little finger thing moved on the screen! Progress! After about half the day, she figured out how to use it - kind of - and finally began working...Sadia yawned and plopped on her couch. "That felt like forever... Okay, um...dinner...uh..." She walked over and opened the fridge. "Ooh, it has lights inside!"
She opened and closed it a few times then shook her head. "Focus! Okay, so...hmm..."
She glanced over and noticed some bread, so she closed the fridge. She thought for a moment and then began making a peanut butter pickle sandwich.
When she sat down at the table to eat, she laughed to herself. "No, it's not that much of a weird combination-" She stopped and looked around. "Who am I talking to...?"
She shook her head and began eating. After a few days, Sadia learned more about computers, but she still wasn't very good at her job.
The supervisor walked in. "Miss Jones, your productivity is significantly down compared to the other employees... You need to pick up your pace, or we're going to have to let you go."
Sadia's eyes widened, and she began typing quickly, stressed out. Before she could help it, she accidently zapped the computer with lightning, which spread to the rest of the electronics, shorting out the entire building.
"Ugh, another power outage?" a coworker complained.
Sadia's eyes widened, and she looked down at her hands in surprise. What did she just do?!
"Alright, everyone can go home early. It will take a while to get the power back online," the supervisor announced.
Sadia sighed in relief and stood, hurrying back home. She went to the library and typed in Google: 'Why do my hands produce lightning?'
The first result was Prince Industries, followed by Project Potestatem, followed by other articles talking about powers and the protection of people with them. She read for a while, learning, then sighed.
"This is all so complicated..." she sighed, standing. "I'm just going to go order pizza."
She walked off, not closing the tab because she didn't know how.
