Amy crossed her arms, waiting for her daughters impatiently. Nila ran in and bowed, waiting quietly. Midnight came in after, also bowing.
"About time," Amy chided. "We have an opportunity today, girls... The sun will fade behind our superior moon, and we can finally destroy those light lovers who stole our lands."
Midnight tensed. "Mother, I-"
"I don't want to hear your objections, Midnight," Amy interrupted, standing from the throne. "As the next queen, you would do well to grasp this opportunity to inherit the rewards of this action."
Midnight sighed slightly. "Yes, mother..."
Nila smirked as Midnight got in trouble.
"You two will remain here and guard the palace... The honor of destroying them will be my own and the council's," Amy ordered.
Midnight clenched her fists. "Yes mother..."
"Yes mother," Nila replied.
Amy smiled and walked out.
Nila and Midnight stood.
"She's really going to destroy the entire kingdom...?" Midnight said quietly, glancing at Nila in concern.
Nila shrugged. "Whatever you're thinking, it's not like you can stop her and the council, Midnight. She made her mind up."
Midnight sighed and nodded slightly. "I suppose you're right..."
Nila shrugged. "I usually am. I'm going to watch the clash from the balcony. You coming?"
"No, I'd rather not watch," Midnight said dismissively.
Nila laughed and walked off. "Suit yourself, goodie-two-shoes."Midnight waited until she left and wrote a frantic note to a nearby kingdom, using magic to send it instantly. There wasn't a moment to waste if her plan would work... She took an appearance altering potion and went off to do her work...
Midnight snuck into the castle and grabbed the tiny, blonde princess, who was crying. "I'm sorry I can't do more... Please don't cry..."
She ran out and handed the baby off to the royals in the carriage, who quickly drove off. She made an illusion, blocking their escape from the Oscurans' notice. All Midnight could do was save the next generation... To send the beacon princess off to be raised by another family. And it wasn't hardly enough in comparison to all that Oscura had done against the Luzians that day.Midnight sat beside Nila, shaking slightly as she saw the utter annihilation that had overcome Luz.
"Wow, mom wasn't messing around," Nila remarked.
All Midnight could do was manage a weak nod, fighting back tears. This is not how she wanted to get their land back... How could one kingdom be so cruel? Could she have done more with the entire kingdom against her? Did the beacon get away? Those were all questions she had to wrestle with as Oscura celebrated a victory. She only hoped as the next queen that she could be better than her mother...
