Hannah walked in. "Hey, mom, dad, why don't we have magic here?"
Bea and Ken exchanged a look.
"Hannah...we hunt magic, remember?" Bea said gently.
Ken nodded in agreement. "We don't want those magic users here."
Hannah blinked. "Why...?"
Ken sighed. "How many times do we have to go over this, Hannah?"
He then launched into a lecture about why magic was bad and why it had to be eliminated. Hannah stared at him as he went on and on and on.
"Does that make sense?" he asked.
Hannah frowned. "Well, that's not fair... Magic is so cool! I don't blame them for wanting to use it! Potions, magic spells, cool powers... That sounds awesome!!!"
A few hunters around them looked over at them with a scoff.
Bea frowned. "Hannah, don't say things like that. You should know better."
"That's it! Enough coddling the child," Ken gave Hannah a look. "Next time we go hunting, you're coming with us!"
Bea frowned. "Ken-"
"No! She's an embarrassment to our family name. It's time she learns her destiny... Becoming a hunter," Ken stated firmly.
Hannah frowned. "But I don't want to-"
"I don't want to hear it! Go to your room and gather your supplies. We leave in 15 minutes," Ken stated.
Hannah blinked then frowned, looking around at everyone staring at them. She frowned then ran off to her room.
"Maybe you were too hard on her..." Bea frowned. "She doesn't understand how evil magic is yet."
"I know... She'll find out soon enough," Ken sighed.Hannah sniffed and packed some clothes, snacks, and water for the trip. She didn't want to be a hunter!
Ken and Bea walked ahead while Hannah reluctantly followed. She glanced over at the forest curiously and walked further inside.
"Well, well... It's been a while since I've seen a young girl with so much raw energy," a woman stated, smiling in amusement.
Hannah jumped and turned around. "Huh...?"
"You need a teacher. I could teach you, but I think my sister would be a much better fit," the woman stated, walking over.
Hannah blinked. "A teacher for what...?"
"Oh, come now. Surely you've noticed your raw magical talent..." the woman smiled.
Bea called, "Hannah? Where are you?"
Hannah's eyes widened. "Magic...? Wait, you have to go! My parents...they're hunters!"
The woman laughed. "I know. That's why I made us invisible. So, kid, do you want to learn magic, or do you hate it like your parents? You have to pick a side here, after all."
Hannah blinked. "Umm..."
"I told you she was too young for this, Ken!" Bea yelled, smacking his arm.
Ken frowned. "Oww... Clearly, the Oscuran is holding her hostage. I didn't know she would do this!"
"Oscuran...?" Hannah asked, looking at her in surprise. "Wow! That's so cool!"
"Shh, I made us invisible, not silent!" she chided.
"Sorry...um..." Hannah hesitated, looking back towards her parents.
"I heard something over there!" Bea said, walking closer to Hannah and the woman.
"We'll destroy that awful woman once and for all, then we'll destroy the rest of their family!" Ken stated, knocking a tree down with one of his weapons.
Hannah's eyes widened. "That's...that's awful... I don't want to be part of that... I've always been so interested in magic, so I..." She looked back over at the woman. "I want to run away and learn magic!"
The woman smiled. "That's what I thought. Let's get out of here."
She snapped her fingers and made them appear in Oscura. The woman waltzed into the throne room. "Hello, sister."
Hannah followed quickly.
"Why have you brought a hunter in here, Nila? What are you getting at?" Midnight demanded, standing up from her throne and aiming a bunch of darkness spears at them.
Hannah jumped and hid behind Nila.
Nila laughed. "Oh, relax, Mid. She's only a child and wants to learn magic. I managed to snag her from the Warrens. What better way to annoy them then to teach their kid magic?"
"The...the Warrens?! Are you insane? They have the top grudge against our family of all the other hunters!" Midnight yelled, making the spears disappear. "I'm not teaching a hunter kid. I'm the queen, and that's final!"
"Then find someone who will," Nila shrugged. She turned and ruffled Hannah's hair. "Maybe if you ask enough times, she'll change her mind."
Hannah smiled. "Really?? Okay!"
"Wha- Nila! I am not changing my mind!" Midnight huffed, crossing her arms.
"Riiight. Well, have fun, you two!" Nila laughed and walked out.
"Nila! Don't leave her here with me-!" Midnight sighed. "Ugh..."
"So...will you teach me magic, Miss Midnight?" Hannah asked, smiling hopefully.
"Absolutely not," Midnight scoffed. "A hunter wanting to learn magic... Unbelievable..."
She huffed and walked out.
"Ohhh, I get it! This is a test of persistance before you accept me!" Hannah said, running after her.
Midnight sighed. "It most certainly is not! Go away."
"Riiight. But the nice lady said I had to keep asking until you said yes, so I get the game!" Hannah grinned, continuing to follow.
"No, Nila is wrong. I won't change my mind. She's just an annoying sister who acts like a child," Midnight stated. "Besides, I barely share my secrets with anyone at all. Why on earth would I teach my enemy?"
"Because...uh...please?" Hannah asked.
Midnight facepalmed and rubbed her head, sighing. This was going to be a long day...
