Eric had turned in a few reports about updates in the Potestatem department. Some of them were passed on from Charles and some were Eric's own. He was calmly working when he got a call.
"Eric, meet in the conference room in 5 minutes."
The line then went dead. Eric blinked then shrugged, standing and walking over. He sat down, noticing Green, Silver, Indigo, and other high ranks from his department were present. He also noticed a state senator, governor, the director of the FBI, and the Secretary of Defense. There were other FBI agents present, but he didn't recognize them. Eric raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. It was silent for the remainder of the five minutes.
The director cleared his throat. "From the reports I've seen, I understand that Charles has released the children into society, and others have been discovered. Is that correct?"
"Yeah, one of them can even copy powers! Isn't that co-?" Green began.
Indigo and Silver both gave him a look and he silenced.
Eric cleared his throat. "That is true, yes. What of it?"
"I don't remember approving this," the governor stated.
"Neither do I," the senator said.
"Nor I," the Secretary of Defense added.
"And neither did I," the director concluded.
"Does he even have the right to do such a thing?" the senator questioned.
Eric sighed and pulled up the fine print to remind them. "He was given full control over their time at the facility, which means he had control over when to end it as well. I thought this was already established."
"Maybe so... However, we are all a bit...concerned, Agent Potvin," the director explained.
"About what?" Eric asked, genuinely baffled.
"For one, some of them are known troublemakers..." an agent suggested.
"And for another, they could expose themselves to the world... And we still don't know where these abilities come from!" the agent replied.
"I'm sorry, but this has already been established under Charles's jurisdiction, so what would you like me to do about it?" Eric asked. "You already forced me to involve them in the rescue mission..."
"And they weren't that bad... If we could weaponize-" the agent began.
Indigo suddenly stood. "No. They are children, so don't even think about bringing them into battle!"
"Indigo, sit down!" another agent said.
"Yes, father..." Indigo sighed.
Ben sighed. "Excuse my daughter... Agent Vail, I believe what my daughter meant to say was that we're dealing with children."
"Not all of them are children," Vail suggested.
"Only one of them isn't that we're aware of, and she's soon to be a mother. This option is ridiculous, and is this really what you're thinking about? Weapons?" Indigo huffed.
Ben gave her a look. "Indigo, enough!"
Green, Indigo, and Silver sighed.
"Why are we here?" Eric asked, glancing at the director.
"I want to see all of them for myself... We'll re-evaluate. And if they don't seem fit for the world, then...well, the abilities of Charles's business and authority can be modified," the director explained.
Indigo and Silver exchanged a look and Green frowned.
Eric blinked a few times. "I...understood, sir."
"Good. I want to meet with them soon. Meeting adjourned," the director said.
Everyone left except the Project Potestatem department.
"...this isn't fair..." Indigo frowned.
"Things usually aren't," Eric sighed, giving her a small smile. "We'll just have to do what we can... I'll go tell Charles the news."
He stood and walked out. Silver patted Indigo's shoulder and walked out. Green and Indigo just sat there and frowned as everyone else left. This wasn't fair...
