Prompt: "I never meant to fall in love with you, I just did."
WARNING: Car accidents are mentioned and described in some detail
Alex was coming back home today. He was coming back home from filming in Vancouver and you were beyond excited. He had been your best friend since you were both little, since you grew up in the houses right next door to one another and your parents were fairly close. There was no way either of you could get out of it, and you were glad neither of you did. He was the he only person that had truly stuck by your side, Alex being as loyal as he was, and he was the only person who you could confide in. But there were some things that you couldn't tell him about, mainly you being in love with him. Yeah. You couldn't tell him that.
You were talking on the phone with Alex as he was on his way home from the airport. You were meeting at his apartment for a night full of pizza and movies. You made a turn down the street that his apartment building was on and you saw a dog running into the middle of the road. You swerved, not wanting to hit it, and rammed your car into a pole. Your first instinct was to close your eyes, hoping that you wouldn't have to see the way your car looked. However, you felt no pain in your head or arms so you wearily opened up your eyes. You gasped as you saw the front of your car smashed against a telephone pole. Scrambling, you grabbed all of your things and bolted out of the car just in case it sparked and caught on fire. The pole fell on your car, causing a huge BOOM to surround the area. You dialed 911, explained the situation, and then called Alex.
"Hey, (Y/N)."
"Alex, I might not come tonight," you said. "I-I was just in a car accident." You heard him take a sharp intake of breath. "I'm fine, I just...wanted to give you a reason why I probably wouldn't make it. I'm sorry."
"Don't apologize! Are they taking you to the hospital? The police station? The auto repair-" You cut him off with a long sigh as you heard police sirens in the distance.
"I don't know where they're taking me Al," you said, using a nickname that you gave him 20 years ago. "I'll call you and tell you everything once I know."
"Okay. Stay safe, alright hun?" You smiled at his kindness. You nodded your head.
"Alright," you said with a wide smile. You heard the beep from his end, indicating that he had hung up. You stood in the freezing wind as the police inspected the car and called an ambulance. There wasn't anything physically wrong with you besides some bruises and cuts on your arms and legs. They wanted to make sure you didn't have something as severe as a concussion on your hands. As you sat in the ambulance, you begged them to let you call Alex, or even text him.
"Miss, we can't let you do that," the EMT said as you looked at him angrily.
"And why the hell not? There is no way to know if I have a concussion yet so let me call me best friend and tell him that I'm going the hospital," you said in a demanding voice. The EMT nodded his head and walked away from you, frustrated and nervous. You held the phone up to your ear as it rang.
"Hey," he said as you began talking.
"I'm going to the hospital and they're going to check me for a concussion and probably for anything else. Could you meet me there? I kinda have no car." You heard Alex chuckle a little as he answered.
"Of course. I'll be there in 15," he answered. You smiled and said goodbye as the EMT got back into the ambulance with you. In minutes, you were at the hospital and being wheeled in on a stretcher. They took you back to get a CAT scan, to check if you had done any damage to your brain.

You walked out of the hospital with Alex as you laughed and joked. There was nothing wrong with you, only some bumps and bruises, so now you were stuck paying thousands of dollars towards an empty hospital visit. You got into the passenger's seat of Alex's car as he hopped into the driver's side.
"You know," he said as he started up the car, "You gave me quick a scare when you called me and told me you were in an accident. I kinda thought you were gonna have something extremely wrong with you." You chuckled as you rolled your eyes.
"I'm fine, Al," you said as you rubbed his shoulder. "Plus, it's not like you can't find a new best friend." You hated referring to him as your best friend, since he had been your crush for years.
"Yeah, but I want the best friend that I am madly in love with," he mumbled a bit too loudly. He froze as he made the turn out of the hospital parking lot. "I-I never meant to fall in love with you, I just did. I guess. I-I don't know."
"Said what? That you're in love with me?" He nodded as you pulled into the parking lot in front of his apartment building. "Well, I guess you're lucky."
"Why," Alex asked as he furrowed his eyebrows at you.
"'Cause, I...I love you, too." He smiled at you before leaning in and crashing his lips onto yours. You were caught by surprise at first, but you relaxed into the kiss and flung your arms around his neck. He pulled away out of breath and leaned his forehead against yours.
"I'm really glad you aren't hurt," Alex said as he got out of his car and quickly ran to your side to help you out. You held onto his hand as he helped you out, smiling at you.
"So am I."
