Castiel's POV

Dean kicked me out. I was no longer allowed there until I proved myself useful, which I knew was going to be harder than anticipated. I wandered down the street aimlessly, looking for some place to go or somewhere to at least shield me from the storm raging the sky. Being lonely was a feeling I never thought about, but I knew I was experiencing it. I noticed a small house on the corner of the street and proceed to walk towards. Its porch light was on outside, indicating someone had to be there and was still awake. I made my way to the door, knocking solemnly, patiently waiting for an answer. A dog barked and someone shushed it before opening the door. She looked up at me as she tried to hold the dog's collar; I presumed to keep it from running away. Her smile fell when she saw me, taking in my unkempt beard, messy hair, and wet clothes. She pulled me inside, asking me to take off my shoes at a mat by the door. I followed her rule, smiling at her once I took them off.

"I'm sorry to barge in uninvited. I needed to find some place to go, to get me out of that weather," I apologized as she went into the kitchen, bringing out a steaming cup. "I-I'm Castiel, by the way."

"It's perfectly fine! I wouldn't want to be stuck out in this anyway. I'm (Y/N)." She handed me the cup and went into a different room. Her voice was very soft, almost as if she was too shy to speak at full volume. I felt something warm on my shoulders and noticed she was placing a fuzzy blanket around me. The dog that came to the door earlier sat down by my legs, rubbing its head on my knee. I timidly reached out my hand, placing it on its head and scratching behind its ear. I heard a breathless laugh as (Y/N) sat on the sofa next to me.

"Butch loves to scratched behind his ears. Don't you, Butch," she said to the dog as he went closer to her. She patted him as he hopped on her lap and then she sighed, looking at me. "What led you to this neck of the woods?"

"W-well," I stopped myself. I couldn't tell her about losing my grace; she would think I was insane. "My best friend kicked me out. We had a little...altercation and he sent me away. He'll come to his senses, though. Dean always comes to his senses." She nodded and listened.

"Well, I have to leave for work at about 6:30 tomorrow. Those kids aren't gonna teach themselves. I'm a teacher, what do you do?" Her voice got louder once she started talking about her job.

"I hunt with my friend and his brother, but now I'm going to have to find a job here..." My voice trailed off as I spoke, getting sadder by the second. I missed Sam and Dean. I missed the bunker. She smiled at me and her eyes lit up.

"Well, the Gas N' Sip down the street is hiring. Maybe they'd take you. I'll drive you there on my way to work tomorrow," (Y/N) beamed as she nudged my shoulder.

"That won't be necessary. I can take myself -"

"I'll drive you there on my way to work tomorrow," she reiterated in a harsher tone. (Y/N) surely wasn't taking 'no' for an answer, so I sighed and looked into her eyes. I gave her a soft smile.

"You'll drive me tomorrow on your way to work," I repeated, letting her know I understood. She got up, placing a sleeping Butch next to me, and left again. I waited, wondering what she was doing. (Y/N) came back and in her hands were a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt.

"These are my boyfriend's. Go and take a shower. You look like you need one." She placed the outfit in my hands and pointed towards a door on the other side of the room, presumably the bathroom.

"Boyfriend," I asked as I walked towards it. "Where is he?"

"He's hunting with his brother, but he'll be back. He always is. Besides, he's only in Oklahoma," she sighed as I opened the door and walked inside, nodding. Oklahoma. Before I left, Sam and Dean were talking about a string of murders there. Maybe that's what she was talking about. I hopped into the shower, warming myself up and washing off the dirt that I had accumulated on my face, arms, and legs. When I finished, I found (Y/N) on the sofa, tears falling from her eyes. I went over and sat next to her, and she laid her head on my shoulder.

"(Y/N), what happened," I asked as Butch hopped into her lap, attempting to make the situation better. She shook her head, rubbing her eyes and sniffling.

"Uh, my boyfriend, his brother went to shoot a...um...deer and accidentally shot Maverick. Maverick is, or was, my boyfriend," she sobbed as I awkwardly rubbed her back. Twenty minutes in and I was already consoling someone.

"It's alright. I promise, everything will be fine." I made sad attempts at trying to make her feel better and (Y/N) lifted her head up, giving me a tiny smile.

"Thank you," she whispered as my arm tightened around her shoulder.
