Based off the song 'You Had Me @ Hello' by A Day to Remember
Trigger warning: Mentions of past abusive relationship
You sat in your usual seat at the local bar. You were drinking your sorrows away for the third time this week, though you've only had one beer so far. You've been so depressed and emotionally unstable since your boyfriend left you over a month ago. You had gone to this bar almost every single night since and you still weren't over him. Everyone told you he was gonna hurt you. Everyone knew he was bad news, but you stuck with him. Yes, he treated you like shit and would hit you sometimes, but you loved him. And you thought that despite his anger issues, he loved you, too. God, you couldn't have been more wrong.
You called the waiter over, asking for another beer. He knew you by name at this point. He had worked every night that you were there and you had grown a friendship with him, even if it wasn't as conventional as others were. He gave you your beer, nodding at you before going around to help other customers. You closed your eyes, taking a long swig of the cold liquid. You placed it back on the table with a loud thud, opening your eyes as a man about your age walked towards you. Something about his was...familiar. He smiled sympathetically at you, silently asking to sit across from you. You gestured for him to do so and he sat down with his beer still in his hand.
"You look rough. Wanna talk about it," he asked as he took a sip of his beer. You sighed, as the wheels in your brain began turning. You knew that voice and that face. You sighed, rubbing your temples, hoping that would help you think of his name faster.
"Breakup," you said simply as you leaned back in your chair, focusing on a ketchup stain on the bar floor. Suddenly, it all clicked. You looked up at him and smirked. "Dean Winchester." He looked confused until it clicked for him, too.
"(Y/N) (Y/L/N)," he said as a smirk appeared on his face, too. "I haven't spoken to you since that hunt in '09. I'm guessing you finally let that jackass go, huh." Your jaw tightened and your eyes returned to the stain.
"Correction: he let me go," you whispered as you tried not to cry. Dean must've heard the crack in your voice because he looked at you as if you were crazy.
"Isn't that a good thing? I mean, you-you're free. He was holdin' you down, I could tell. God, I wanted you so bad. I wanted to ask you out then and there b-" He stopped himself as he saw your eyes widen. He cleared his throat. "But yeah. Y-you didn't deserve someone like him." Did Dean just confess his love for you? It had been almost 9 years and he was till hung up on you? You weren't gonna lie, the man was fairly attractive. You had found him attractive from the moment you had met him and stared into his green apple eyes.
"You showing up again has been the only truly good thing I've encountered in the past 10 years. You know, from the moment I saw you, I found you attractive. I had forgotten about you though, falling in love with that disgusting man," you said, voice filling with confidence the more you talked about how gruesome your ex actually was. "From the moment you said hello, I just knew there was something about you." Dean blushed, putting his head down so you wouldn't be able to see it.
"Well, maybe we can give this a shot," he said gesturing to the both of you. Dean's tone quickly changed. "I-if you're up for it, that is."
"I'm 100% up for it," you said. You had one thing to be happy about now: that horrible breakup had helped you find the man of your dreams...again, anyway.
