You gathered your belongings out of the house that you had lived in your entire life. Memories of high school flooded into your mind, stopping you for a few moments. You had to get everything together, due to you finding a new house. This house was your parents, but they were killed by demons a few years ago. You couldn't bear to get rid of your childhood, but you also couldn't afford paying two mortgages. Everything was in boxes. Your old toys, your clothes, your photo albums, and even your happiness. You wished you could keep this house, but everything was too expensive and difficult. You closed up the box with tape and placed it on the floor with the other boxes. You were finished. You're childhood was officially finished. You sighed, getting up to get lunch from a cafe.
As you walked the streets, you came to realize how vacant the town had become over the years. People had died, others had moved away as soon as they had the chance. Like you. Shops were closed but one shop that would never close was Harlow's Cafe. The cafe had a special place in your heart, providing you with coffee and bagels before school every morning. In 2 minutes, you arrived at the cafe. The familiar ring of the door filled your ears as you were greeted with the smell of freshly brewed coffee.
"Hey, dear. What can I get you? The usual," the owner, Harlow, said as you nodded and gave him a soft smile. Harlow was an older man, being in his mid-50s. He has been in this town since you were born, having just opened the cafe. You grabbed your bagel, thanked him, and went and sat down at your usual table by the window.
The pavement looked more void of color in this town. The buildings were either demolished or broken in some way or another. Everything was shut down, causing me to be forced to get a motel room in the next town over. This town seemed even more depressed than I was. There was a potential case here, but it didn't seem right to be here without Dean. I know he'd want me to do this without him, continue to save the world, but it was hard to do on my own. There had been other hunters in the recent towns I visited, but this town was so small and that seemed very unlikely. There didn't seem to anyone living here anymore, despite there being many houses with cars out front and children playing in the snow dusted yards. My stomach rumbled as I passed a cafe and I went in to grab a bite to eat. It also seemed to have free wifi, which would provide me with some time to go over the case once again.
You were munching on your bagel when the bell on the door chimed. A very tall man walked inside, having to duck his head slightly as he walked through the tiny door frame. He walked up to Harlow, giving him a kind smile. You had never seen him before. Did he just move in? Why would he move into this desolate town? You admired him for a little bit before returning to your phone, studying the recent murders. You knew that it wasn't common for murders like this to happen, hearts getting ripped out and such. Ever since the death of your parents, you had been into the supernatural and had found parallels in different murders or disappearances to the death of your parents.
"Hey, Har? Did you hear what happened to Missy Carlton? Isn't that sad," you said hopefully getting the attention of the stranger. Harlow nodded, a sad look appearing on his face.
"Yeah, it is. Just got married to that young man, too. Nice boy." It was your turn to nod. Time to bring up the weird.
"It's just weird that the last few murders have been on married women. Do you think there's some killer going around with a thing for 'em?" The man looked up at you and visibly took in a deep breath.
This girl was talking about the murders. Why would she be talking about the murders? She seemed as if she might know about demons and such, having a kind of hunter aesthetic to her. She seemed like she knew something and seemed like she knew the town. Her comfort in having such easy conversation with who I assumed was the cafe owner indicated she had to be from around here.
"So, I'm assuming you're from around here?" I walked up to her and sat in the seat across from her. She looked up from her phone and nodded.
"Born and raised," you said as he took out his laptop. He nodded and reached out his hand.
"Sam."
"(Y/N)." Should you ask him about demons? He seems like he would know about them and how terrible they are. But you didn't want to scare him. Scaring him would be bad. Sam seems very kind and if he is a hunter, than that just makes him even more attractive. His hair was long, brown and messy. But the good kind of messy. His eyes were some sort of mixture between green, blue, and brown. However, the brown was most prominent. You were pulled out of your thoughts when you heard an ambulance wiz by. You quickly hopped out of your seat, running outside to see who had gotten murdered this time. Sam followed close behind you as you made your way towards the blue and red flashing from your neighbors' house.
Someone was getting carried out on a stretcher. Another murder, happening right under my nose. I checked my pockets for my FBI badge, which thankfully I kept in this jacket. They hesitantly let me through, obviously questioning why I would be in such a small town.
"(Y/N), I'll be back in a few minutes." She nodded before crossing her arms over her chest and striking up a conversation with one of the officers. I walked into the house to see blood splattered all over the living room wall and on the white carpet. The forensics were taking swabs of DNA from the door knob and walls around the crime scene. Pretty much everything looked to be untouched. I sighed and walked back outside to see the ambulance driving away with the victim's body. I walked back up to (Y/N), waving to her for her to follow me. She thanked the cops and followed me.
"You got anywhere to go?" You asked him because you were scared that he was going to be sitting out on this dark, cold night in his car. There hadn't been a motel around your town since the 90s, closing its doors after a bug problem.
"No. I-I've got a room at a motel just out of town," I said fumbling on my words. I had to tell her I was a hunter. "And, uh, I know who - or rather what - is committing these murders." She yanked my arm pulling me out of sight of the townspeople, even though there weren't many left.
"W-wait, you're a hunter?" Your heart was beating fast as he nodded reluctantly. You smiled, him returning the gesture.
Looks like I have a new hunting partner.
