You sat in your usual spot at the park. Due to the briskness of the night, the metal bench was cold to the touch, yet still comforting. The soothing music played through your headphones, causing you to nod off slightly. You jolted awake when you saw someone, or something, moving on the other side of the park. As the object got closer, you could see that it was a tall boy about your age. Wait, doesn't he go to school with me? you thought as he noticed you sitting there. He began speaking, but had to repeat himself because you had your headphones in.

"Uh, can I sit here?" His voice was timid and deep, leaving your heart to flutter and begin to beat faster in your chest. You nodded as you slid over and patted the empty spot next to you. He sat down and smiled a little at you, talking again. "I'm Sam." Sam held his hand out for you to shake and you took it kindly, instantly feeling how warm it was.

"I'm (Y/N)." He let his hand drop to his side. "My God, your hands are so warm. You're like a human heater." Sam's smile reached his eyes as he laughed a little bit, it making you melt just as much as his voice did.

"Thanks. So, what brings you out here at 11:50 at night," Sam said softly as he looked as his feet and began kicking a pebble. You sighed, thinking if you should spill your secret to him. No one knew your parents fought constantly. No one knew your home was broken, even if you still had both parents there; it just wasn't the same as a normal, loving household.

"M-my parents were fighting again so I, uh, I left," you said barely above a whisper. You could feel Sam's eyes on you as felt tears stinging your eyes. You pushed them back, looking into his eyes and sighing. "What about you?" He gulped and ran his hand through his hair, trying to stall as much as possible.

"My dad was being an asshole. We got into another...fight and it got physical. Halfway through I just...left," Sam said as he shrugged his shoulders and stared at the jungle gym that was in front of you guys. It was quiet for a few minutes before you spoke again.

"You go to East, right? I-I just feel like I've seen you before...maybe in, like, math or something," you said trying to start up another conversation. He shrugged again, his jaw set and his eyes still averted away from you. "Listen, I'm sorry I asked about why you were here. I didn't know it was a touchy subject for you..." Sam sighed and looked at you, placing his hand on top of yours.

"Don't apologize, 'cause you didn't do a thing. I just...he wants me to join the family business, but I want to go to college. I'm just trying to think about what I should do." You nodded as you scooted closer to him, leaning your head on his shoulder. His hand, which was on top of yours, went around your shoulder and pulled you against his body. Warmth radiated off of him and he sighed. "I know that your parents' fighting is tough, but it's okay. In 6 months, you'll be heading off to college and you'll be able to think about starting your own family. You'll try your hardest to do anything you possibly can so that you're kids won't have to go through what you are. You're strong, (Y/N). You can make it through." You had tears streaming down your face and you nuzzled your nose into Sam's shoulder.

"Thank you, Sam. And don't worry, you'll make it out, too. I can tell that you'll be able to go do whatever you want and not have to conform to your family," you said barely above a whisper. You felt him nodding, then his face in your hair.

"By the way, I sit near you in math. You're adorable, like I can barely pay attention, so this is like a dream come true. Sorry if I sound like a complete stalker, but it's true." You laughed as you looked up at him, looking into his eyes.

"Even if I didn't remember what class we had together, I can tell you that I certainly feel the same way." He smiled as he leaned in to kiss you. You leaned up and you felt shivers go up your spine when your lips connected. After a few seconds, he pulled away and held you impossibly closer.

"We should make this a regular thing, ya know, meeting out here like this," Sam said as he stood up, leaving you cold and empty. You stood up, too, feeling the warmth again as soon as he wrapped his arm around you. You leaned into his touch, nodding your head.

   "We should."
