Zane Truesdale X Reader-- Wanna Try That Again?

And now, without further ado, your regularly scheduled episode of Yu-Gi-Oh! X Reader.

"You absolute fucking... I'm so angry I can't even insult you!" you screamed at the top of your lungs.

Zane Truesdale stood across from you, his arms crossed and mouth a tight line. "What are you angry for, little one?"

You growled under your breath. Little?  You may have been a bit younger than him but that didn't give him the right to call you little!

"The fact that you think you're so damn perfect, and that everyone should fall at your feet and worship you as a king or god or something!"

He laughed. "A god? Little one, you know perfectly well that I am no god. I am no king either. I am... Kaiser Zane. Hell Kaiser, if you wish."

You gritted your teeth. "I've known you my whole life... everything changed once you went to Duel Academy. You became self-centered, you had to be on top or what was it for?"

"What was it for?" Zane hissed, unfolding his arms and clenching his fists. "It was for Syrus. And for you. Syrus was always the favorite at home. I thought... I thought that if I was the best that there ever was in a duelist, I would be noticed! As for you, I loved you from childhood, but I kept my distance once you started hanging out with Atticus. You love him, don't you?"

"What?" you exclaimed. "No, I don't love Atticus. He's like my brother." You paused, weighing your next words carefully. "I asked only that you would be my friend, and you shut us all out in favor of your little power game."

Zane chuckled. "You're missing the point."

"I think you're missing the point, Zane!" you snapped. "I was in love with you too!" Zane took a step back, a little shocked, but you kept ranting. "I was in love with you, but that stopped once you changed and became Kaiser Zane. Atticus became the friend I needed, and he was happy with staying friends! And then you lost to Phoenix and became Hell Kaiser, and I thought you couldn't get any lower. Then you came here again and tossed your brother to the ground and threw me aside like a child's toy that you got tired of playing with." You stopped to catch your breath, glaring him down.

"So yes, I care for Atticus. What's stopping me? Certainly not you. He's my friend, and you have no right to dictate my friends all because of some stupid crush you had years ago!"

With this final exclamation, you placed your hands on Zane's shoulders and gave him a shove. He stumbled back, eyes widening- then hardening under your gaze.

In moments, you found yourself pinned against the opposite wall. Zane had grabbed your arms and driven you back. His eyes were inches from yours.

"You wanna try that again, sweetheart?" he hissed, pressing you into the plaster. You heard it crack slightly behind you.

"Zane-" you started, but found yourself lost for words. "I-"

"Shh..." he whispered, moving a hand to stroke your hair. "I'm sorry. Let me make it up to you? Get coffee with me?"

You shivered a little. "I thought... Miss Fontaine said you weren't supposed to have caffeine."

Zane laughed lightheartedly. "I'll make an exception."

"Not on your life," you joked, but you smiled and added, "Yeah. You're paying."

"I'll pay for everything your heart desires if it means I get you back- at least as a friend," he promised.

You grinned. "What about more?"

He smiled gently. "I wouldn't be opposed." He kissed your cheek and swiftly backed away. "Saturday?"

After a moment, you pushed yourself off the wall and laughed. "It's a date."
