Atticus X Reader

Look, I'm just gonna drop this homecoming oneshot here for LighingQueen

because it was a cute idea okay

like I don't like this guy

but

it was an idea

so sue me

"Oh Y/nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!" a voice yelled. "Wherefore art thou?"

You dove into a nearby bush, muttering, "Ra help me, please let Alexis come along."

Fortune was on your side today as Alexis strolled up. "Oh, hi Atticus," she said.

"Sissy! How are you today?" Atticus cheered.

Alexis replied, "I'm fine. Y/n's in a bit of a tough spot, though."

Alexis, don't you dare!

"She's stuck in this bush, do you wanna help her out?"

"Don't mind if I do!" Atticus told her, reaching down and grabbing your arm. "There you are, Y/n!"

You glared at him. "For the record, I wanted to stay in that bush. It was better than breathing the same air you are."

"You wound me so, fair maiden!" Atticus wailed, letting go of you and placing a hand on his heart. "And here I thought I might actually have a date for the Duel Academy homecoming duel!"

Alexis winked at you. "Have fun," she mouthed.

You shot her a look and turned back to Atticus. "Atticus, look, you're a great guy, but I just don't see you in that way, okay?"

Atticus rolled his eyes. "Y/n, you know that every girl on the island is smitten with me?"

"Too bad. That means you can't take them to drive-in movies," you said, poker face strong.

He gave you a look. "Okay, very funny, but-"

"There's no Chipotle here either," you added.

"Stop."

"Also we have to get on a freaking plane to go to the nearest mall."

Atticus's face began to resemble that of a lost puppy. "Okay, fine," he finally said, then turned on his heel and walked off.

You took a deep breath. "Finally."

That night, after a long day in class, you went back to your room, opened it- and found a very strange sight.

A cardboard-box car was facing the television, which played your favorite movie. In front of the car was a little tray with some- takeout Chipotle on it. It didn't take a genius to figure out who had done this, even without noticing the rack of dressing set up in the other corner.

Atticus poked his head out of your closet. "Hi."

"Hi?" you replied, dropping your bag. "What's all this?"

"It's for you. You complained about not having this stuff so I brought it to you."

You stared around the room and felt your heart melt. "Atticus, that's very sweet of you!" you finally exclaimed, giving him a smile.

"So....." Atticus held out a bouquet of your favorite flowers. "Will you at least give me a chance, Y/n?"

A long moment of silence followed. "Fine," you eventually groaned. "But don't blow it."

"Yay!" Atticus cheered, grabbing your hand and pulling you to the box car. "See? Drive-in movie and Chipotle."

You smiled in spite of yourself. "You overdo it way too much," you told him, but allowed him to hold you while you watched the movie.

After it was over, Atticus stood up. "I'm still hoping that you'll dance with me at homecoming, Y/n," he told you, kissing your hand with a quick grin. "You can pick any dress you want and you'll still look good."

Surprising even yourself, you gave him a hug. "Thanks, Atticus."

The night of the dance had arrived. Jaden Yuki had, obviously, taken down his opponent in the duel easily, so there was a lot to celebrate. Alexis had convinced you to wear a knee-length, f/c, sleeveless dress with sequins on the top part. You wore white sandals on your feet and your hair was done in (favorite style). Alexis reassured you that you looked beautiful, but you weren't so sure, especially when you saw Atticus spinning Mindy effortlessly.

"Alexis, this is stupid, let me leave," you groaned.

Alexis laughed and held your arm tighter. "Nope. You are going to go dance with my brother and you're going to like it."

"No I'm-"

Without warning, Alexis shoved you so that you fell forward. Instantly, you felt someone catch you, keeping you from falling onto the ground.

"Looks like you fell for me, huh?" Atticus joked, pulling you to your feet. He set his arms around your waist and tugged you a little closer.

"I guess," you muttered, putting your arms around his neck. "Thanks for keeping me on my toes."

"No problem," Atticus replied, smiling at you. "Did you like the dress I found?"

"Yeah, Alexis made me wear it but it's nice," you said, playing a little with his hair.

"Keep doing that, that actually feels pretty great," Atticus whispered, moving his hand to the back of your neck.

You could practically feel his breath on your mouth as you stood there, swaying to the slow beat of the music. "You're breathing my air, Rhodes," you hissed, standing on tiptoe to kiss him.

Alexis squealed, shattering the moment and any others that might be happening (cough Jaden and Jesse cough). "I CALLED IT!"

"Stupid siblings," you blurted against Atticus's lips. He chuckled into your mouth and, ignoring Alexis and the stopped music, pulled you even closer.
