Some of the chapters that I publish for a while will be shorter because I want to get these out as quick as possible. I apologize in advance.

"You can't make me go," you whispered as Jack straightened your blanket.

"You won't get better, and then you'll leave your best friend alone," Jack reminded you, giving you a sad smile. "Listen, this is the only way that you can get treatment."

"Fine," you scoffed, clutching his shirt. Jack lifted you from your chair, blanket and all, and carried you to his motorcycle, belting you into the special seat of his own design. "But you can't make me get shots. Pills only."

Jack gave you a sad smile and stroked your hair. "In and out, okay?"

A few minutes later, he was pulling into the hospital parking lot. You coughed fiercely into Jack's shirt, clinging onto the fabric as he lifted you into his arms.

"You're going to be okay," he whispered.

"I'm scared, Jack."

"Of what?" he chuckled. "There's nothing to be scared of."

"The doctors," you replied weakly. "They're going to hurt me, Jack."

Jack shook his head. "No, they won't. I'll be by your side for as long as possible, and they won't hurt you as long as I've got you."

You rested your head against his chest, listening to his heartbeat. It was comforting, calming, to hear the steady rhythm, while your own beat so erratically.

Jack carried you all the way into the emergency room, keeping you in his arms while the doctors rushed down the hall.

"She caught a cold last week and it blew up," you heard him explain. "Acute myelogenous leukemia."

The doctors nodded as your vision blurred. "Don't let them take me, Jack," you whispered.

He seemed so far away. A needle jabbed into your arm, then Jack was gone.

For the next few days, you swum in and out of consciousness, occasionally spotting Jack or his friends Yusei or Carly wandering about the room.

At one point, Carly spoke to you. "Jack couldn't bear to see you so weak and helpless. Yusei and I are taking shifts, and we're supposed to let him know if you wake up." She paused for a second, contemplating her next words. "I know you're unconscious and you can't hear me, but I think that you know in your heart that Jack loves you. He'd do anything for you. I used to feel that way about him, so if you shatter his heart into a million pieces by dying, I will rouse you from the dead and then kill you again."

Then she was gone, leaving a sense of hope behind.

It was on Yusei's shift that you woke up. He jumped to his feet when your eyes opened and called for Jack, who was apparently sitting just outside.

Jack dashed into the room, catching sight of your eyes, open for the first time in a week. Your name slipped from his lips before he could stop it, then he was crouching by your bed and holding your hand. "It was so hard to watch the very people you feared the most drag you away from me," he murmured, kissing the back of your hand and squeezing it between his own.

Yusei slipped out quietly, smiling to himself.

"They gave me the good news," Jack added. "They cleared up the infection and managed to get your leukemia under control. Your cancer could be gone in a week or less."

You smiled at him. "Good," you choked out, vocal chords weak from the ordeal. "That's good."

Jack crawled up to sit next to you, pulling you up and into his arms. "I won't have to tote you around anymore," he chuckled. "I'm so proud of you for fighting."

You touched your forehead to his. "Thank you, Jack."

"I love you," he replied.

"I love you too."

His lips brushed against yours, holding onto you tightly. "Don't let me lose you ever again."

You smiled, cupping his face in your hands. "I love you, Jack."

"I love you."

Yusei barged back in just as Jack kissed you again. "Okay, guys, wrap it up. She just woke up."

"YUSEI! I'LL GET YOU!"
