The luscious green grass caressed my bare feet as I walked through it. I breathed the fresh air around me. Ahhh this is my country, my home, Scotland! A sob choked up in my throat and I held back my tears. Soon I will meet my mother for the first time as an adult. Will she recognize me? Will her arms wrap around me with love and acceptance, or will she deny me a place in her heart? My chest tightened and a tear escaped and rolled down my face.
My horse Hercules was besides me and waited for me to make the decision to return home. He is a beautiful, white, Arabian stallion, a gift from the Twelve Council. Hercules has powers too. He is able to appear and disappear at my will. Me and him connected immediately.
I could see Brodie Castle from where I stood and my heart swelled with pride! All this land around me is mine, and one day my children will inherit it. I closed my eyes and focused on my mother. I saw her sitting alone on one of the stone benches in the gardens. I felt her pain, and I was consumed with guilt. It was my fault her face was stained with tears. I took too long to return.
Climbing on Hercules, the both of us excitedly headed for home. The courtyard was empty as Hercules and I entered, except for the two guards who raised their swords and yelled, "Halt!". I jumped off the stallion and introduced myself.
"Hello lads, My name is Christopher and I wish to visit with Lady Elizabeth, Druidess of Brodie Castle." I said with a Scottish brogue.
The two men looked at each other confused, and I flashed them a smile and said, "Please it is of utmost importance that I speak with her." I did not want to explain myself to them, what would I say? Oh hello, remember me, I left as a small child a few weeks ago and now I am back all grown up? They would not believe me, and they would run their spear right through my heart.
The two guards stepped asside and allowed me to enter, of course the little bit of magic that I spooled over them was helpful.
"Stay here Hercules, I will be back." I told the stallion, who understood everything I told him and did not move from where he stood.
Reaching the gardens, I walked all the way back where the rose bushes were located, and found my mother. She was a sight to behold. Sensing my presense, she turned and her beautiful eyes fell on me. Her lips trembled, and she placed her hand on her breast, as she lifted her body to a standing position. Her eyes were wide with disbelief.
"Mama!" I cried softly.
And my mother's arms opened wide, and I ran into her embrace and squeezed her tight.
"Christopher." My mother whispered, and she started to cry.
