The sun is about to rise and I have not slept a wink all night. Laying next to her, I want to make sure a fever doesnt attack her weak body. I swallowed a sob. She lays still, lifeless and I greive beyong despair.
James words torture my mind, could he know who Elizabeth will choose? He has to be wrong, Elizabeth loves me and she will forgive me. Again. In a few hours I will find Mary and ask her if she has had any new visions.
I reached over and put my palm lightly on my wife's forehead and noticed with alarm that she was warm. My heart thundered viciously against my chest. Jumping out of bed, I run and open the door and call out to the guards to bring the Healer immediately. Running back to my room, I start pacing back and forth and pleaded to God to spare her life, for I know that I could not possibly live without her.
With in a few minutes, the Healer came and he is checked her forehead. The look on his face confirmed the worst. I let out a howl and pounded my chest as the sobs wrenched from my throat.
What if Elizabeth's body is too weak to battle the fever? What if she dies? I will kill myself, I will not live without her!
The Healer took out of his pouch the herb Chamomile, and a few pieces of caraway. With his fingers he grinded it in his hands and rubbed it on Elizabeths forehead and down her chest, and arms. Elizabeth was in and out of consciousness, and she mumbled my name a few times, and a sob tore from my throat. I kneeled before her and waited.
"There is nothing more I can do for her, the medicine alone might not be able to help her. Her body might be too weak to fight off the fever. We will have to wait and see. If and when the fever breaks, her chances of survival will be higher." he said, but he didn't sound too promising.
I closed the door to my room and walked back to the bed and I watched her like a hawk.
