Chapter 10

Yanxi's POV

After school, I went straight to a minimarket to buy some snacks. I was struggling to reach the one and only bag of chips on top there when a hand suddenly grabbed it.

"Hey that's mine--"

I paused when I realized who it was.

"Hey unpolite girl, this is why you should be taller if you don't want your things to be taken by someone else," he smirked while shaking the bag of chips and casually left me, dumbfounded.

"WAIT KARRY!!" I shouted and ran crazily to search for him.

I've been dying to eat those chips and I really couldn't let him to take it. I saw he was paying at the cashier. I ran to him but before I could reach the cashier, he threw the money to the desk while shouting, "You can keep the change!"

"KARRY WANG!! DON'T RUN AWAY!!" I shouted as I went out of the minimarket to follow him.

After a few minutes, I got so tired of running. He was way in front of me. It's not my fault, he ran too fast, way too fast. I think he would win a gold medal if he joined a competition.

But then, I suddenly saw his figure stopped. He turned back and slowly walked towards me. Closer and closer until he was right in front of me, while I was still catching up on my breath.

He smirked and threw the bag of chips to my face, "There."

I wanted to burst into anger but I remembered he just fainted just now, so I tried to calm myself down and asked about his condition. I picked the bag of chips and cleared my throat, "Thanks, and please be more POLITE. Anyway, are you fine now?"

He looked at me as he blinked his eyes several times. He looked so confused and speechless. But the way he blinked his eyes is really cute and how--

STOP!

"I guess you're okay now," I said and was about to leave when he suddenly asked, "Are you sick?"

"Sick? No I'm not," I answered, confused by his sudden question as I touched my forehead which wasn't hot.

He raised an eyebrow, "Since when do you care about me?"

I was flustered that I couldn't speak properly, "I-- I don't, no I, I never even--"

"Thanks anyway," he smiled. "For not leaving me there when I fainted, and for saving me from Peixun."

After that, he left. I didn't realized before, but I found myself smiling. It's the first time, the first time ever I saw him thanking someone, while smiling so sincerely like that. How could he change like that in a split of second?

But one thing that I didn't want to happen, just happened. My heart was racing, and I'm pretty sure it's because of him.

The next day, I was eating peacefully alone at the school's backyard when Karry suddenly sat beside me. I turned my head and asked him, "You're not eating?"

He looked like he wasn't in a very good mood.

"I did," he answered shortly, without looking at me.

"How? I mean it's just been 5 minutes," I said and took another spoonful of rice.

"I eat faster than you think," he said quickly.

I looked back at him, "Do you think I'm dumb? You need 2 minutes to go to the cafetaria and 2 minutes to go back here. So you're saying you only eat for a minute?"

He looked flustered and cleared his throat as he avoided my gaze, "Well, that could happen."

"I thought you're very smart. I guess me who's always ranked second is smarter than you who's always ranked first," I sighed and shook my head while looking at my food to take a spoonful of rice again.

"Shut up," he said.

"Don't be rude, Karry, it's no--"

I paused when I looked at him. A tear rolled down his cheek. I widened my eyes and panicked, "Oh my gosh! D--did I really offend you? I'm sorry I didn't mean that okay, you're very smart, the smartest in this school."

Wait-- Why did I suddenly care so much about him?!

"No, it's not you," he said and was about to stand up when I held his wrist.

Seriously, what happened to you, Yanxi?! Stop caring about him!

He looked down at me and I was just watching as his tears kept rolling down his cheek.

I really didn't want to say this,  but these words just slip out of my mouth.

"A--are you okay?"

I'm so sorry for the late update, I was supposed to update last Sunday. I was busy doing something so I couldn't update. I hope you enjoy this chapter though. Next chapter will be this Sunday, I'll try my best!
