A/N: short chapter! I have a laid out plan like for the last two....it's going to take a while. Bear with me guys. Several of the chapters have been short since I'm on a huge time crunch with my uni assignments....do you feel my pain?
It's too late to change your mind
Even though this fragile world is tearing apart at the seams
We can't wash these sins away
This sinking feeling everyday: I'm waking up in someone else's lifeIs it so hard for you?
'Cause it's so hard for meTo believe that what we dreamed could ever come to life again
'Cause I cannot erase this lie
Not gonna let this day go by
I'm gonna save this wasted life
And nothing can stand in my way
Not enough to say goodbye
Burn it til there's nothing left
I'm drowning in the mess that I have madeIs it so hard for you?
'Cause it's so hard for me
To believe that what we dreamed could ever come to life again
'Cause I cannot erase this darkness in me-Erase This by Evanescence
You hadn't spoken to anyone since the incident with the fiends of darkness. You felt terrible for everything that had happened. Yugi. He was the last person on your mind. You weren't able to forgive yourself over everything that had happened with them. You had a feeling that he wanted to talk to you but you didn't have the courage to see him. You were still injured anyway.
Yugi sighs to himself, he was happy that his grandpa was okay now but couldn't help but wonder what you were doing right now. "Yugi? Stop staring out into space boy and help your grandpa out." Yugi said, "Oh right." He helped Grandpa Muto with the chores he was doing right now. He couldn't help but think of the conversation from before, his mind thinking of you in the process. He shook his head, shaking out the thoughts he knew would probably break his heart. Why can't I say it to her? Why and how will I tell her?
You couldn't stop staring out the window. Yugi. Why can't I stop thinking of you? You whisper, "My heart is a roller coaster when you're around, so why does it hurt so much when I'm around you? What am I supposed to do?" You shake your head, "I'm overthinking this, I don't even know if Yugi will ever see me as more than just a friend. Besides, I'm sure that after everything, Yugi might forget about me."
Yugi sighs and fell back on his bed. "Every thought, every moment. It's always about her, I have to see her but I don't have the courage to do so. I think that it's best to wait until tomorrow."
****The next day****
You were still adjusting to your crutches. Your ankle was still twisted, and you didn't want to risk bumping into someone in the process. You walk through the halls, bag on your shoulder as you struggled to carry the weight. You suddenly felt the load become lighter, making you slightly confused. You then see Joey holding your book bag and saying, "I ain't lettin' you carry that while you're hurt. Come on, hand over your things, I'll carry them." You hear another voice say, "I second that." "Hey Tristan." Tristan remarks, "Don't you "Hey me" Y/N, just give us your things." You handed your things over and follow the two boys.
You sat beside Téa, who just gave you a small smile. I wonder where Yugi is. Maybe he decided to not come to school. You quietly sigh to yourself and look on to the rest of the day.
You sigh once more, wondering why you felt so miserable. You were staring out the car window and realized that Croquet had stopped driving. "Croquet?" He spoke gently, "You want to see Mr. Muto don't you?" How did he know? He began to chuckle, "It's written all over your face, Miss Y/N. Don't worry, I'll let Mr. Pegasus know that you'll be a bit late." You give him a smile and say, "Thank you Croquet." He answers, "No problem, Miss. Just call me when you're finished."
Croquet had helped you out of the car and drove away. You take a deep breath and say, "Alright, then. Let's hope that Yugi won't avoid me." You push the door open and see Grandpa Muto sorting and putting away cards. He stops and notices you standing there. "Ah, why hello Y/N! It's been a while." You point out, "It's only been one day." He remarks, "It feels like it's been longer. You came at the perfect time." You became confused, "I did?" He nods, "I've been trying to get Yugi to go be with his friends, but I haven't been able to get him out of his room since we left the hospital." You both hear footsteps coming down, making you both surprised. "Grandpa, what-" Yugi stops when he sees you with Grandpa Muto. Yugi asks, "What's going on?" Yugi's grandpa replies, "Nothing's wrong, Yugi. Y/N just came to see us." You said, "I hope I'm not intruding, Yugi." Yugi replied, "Oh no, it's fine." He adds, "Let's go up to my room." He takes your hand, carefully guiding you to his room, as you both trotted (you limped slightly) up the stairwell.
Yugi suddenly went silent, an awkward silence ensuing the both of you. You quietly spoke up, "I know that this was unexpected but I just had to come and see you. I just...I don't know. Every time I tried to stop thinking of something particular, I start thinking of you, Yugi. It's like every time I try to suppress these feelings, they grow stronger when I'm around you. I know there's something, something that will never change between us, Yugi. I can't lie to myself or to you much longer. It hurts too much to make up the feelings that don't really exist." I think I said too much. You add, "I think that I should leave." You were about to leave when you hear Yugi speak, "Y/N, hold on." You stop, suddenly feeling Yugi's hand close the bedroom door, your back hitting against the door. The space between the both of you turning into almost mere inches of mingled breaths of hesitation. Yugi began to speak, "There's so much about you, so much I want to know more about. You have no idea how hard it is to hide how I feel about you." Yugi. You whisper, "I thought that you would hate me after everything that happened. I just thought-mmph." You feel something touch your lips, your eyes widening with realization at what had just occurred. Yugi pulls away and remarked, "You know, I could never hate you." You feel yourself turn ruby at Yugi's remark. You both hear Yugi's grandfather call out, "Is everything alright up there?" Yugi replies, "Everything's fine, grandpa." Yugi moves a strand of your hair and places it behind your ear. You then hear Yugi add to his previous words (but in a whisper), "Everything is just fine now." Yugi kissed your forehead and hugs you tightly. You hear Yugi speak once more, "To be completely honest, I was afraid that you died after that fight." You feel his grip on your body become firmer as he continued, "I-I was afraid that they had taken you from me. Y/N I, I love you so much that it hurts to think about it entirely. I tried to tell myself that I was just imagining these feelings but every time I'm around you, the feelings get stronger and harder to forget about." You said, "I tried. I tried to deny what my heart felt but those feelings took over me when I saw you." Yugi kept holding you and replied, "I'm never going to let you go, never again. I promise to protect you from whatever obstacle comes in front of us."
