"When it can be said by any country in the world, my poor are happy, neither ignorance nor distress is to be found among them, my jails are empty of prisoners, my streets of beggars, the aged are not in want, the taxes are not oppressive, the rational world is my friend because I am the friend of happiness. When these things can be said, then may that country boast its constitution and government. Independence is my happiness, the world is my country and my religion is to do good." -Thomas Paine, Rights of Man

"Over the years, I have come to realize that the greatest trap in our life is not success, popularity, or power, but self-rejection. Success, popularity, and power can indeed present a great temptation, but their seductive quality often comes from the way they are part of the much larger temptation to self-rejection. When we have come to believe in the voices that call us worthless and unlovable, then success, popularity, and power are easily perceived as attractive solutions. The real trap, however, is self-rejection. As soon as someone accuses me or criticizes me, as soon as I am rejected, left alone, or abandoned, I find myself thinking, "Well, that proves once again that I am a nobody." ... [My dark side says,] I am no good... I deserve to be pushed aside, forgotten, rejected, and abandoned. Self-rejection is the greatest enemy of the spiritual life because it contradicts the sacred voice that calls us the "Beloved." Being the Beloved constitutes the core truth of our existence."

― Henri J.M. Nouwen

You look around the place where you had been dropped off, you sigh to yourself and wonder why this was happening to you. Your parents didn't always have the best relationship with you, which caused a lot of issues to come up and brought you into the situation you were in now. You took your father's advice and moved to Domino City to live with an uncle that you had never even met before. You thought to yourself, "I hope this uncle isn't weird like the other ones dad described."  You were about to knock when the doors suddenly opened, startling you in the process. You see a silver-haired man wearing a red coat, an ivory shirt that was ruffled and a black bow tie. He spoke as if he were expecting you, "Ah, you must be the niece Y/FN was speaking to me about. You're much prettier in person, my dear." He adds, "Don't be shy, come in come in.''

You followed him inside and kept quiet, not knowing what to say. You realize that he had stopped and you heard him speak, "Why so quiet? Surely, you mustn't think lowly of me." You spoke shyly, "I um.....no I-I didn't, I just didn't know what to say, that's all." He said, "Let me take a look at you, my dear." He continued, "You look just like your mother." You reply, "I-I get that a lot." The silver-haired man said, "You can call me Uncle Pegasus- oh that's right, I don't even know my own niece's name and I just met her today!" You said, "Oh um....it's Y/N."  He gives you a gentle smile and says, "Well Y/N, we have a lot of catching up to do now, don't we?" You nod and follow after him, finding yourself in a large bedroom. He speaks with a gentle tone, "This is your room, if you need anything, just let any of the guards know." He then asks, "Could I get a hug from my sweet niece?" You nod shyly and you give your uncle a hug. You knew that this would be an interesting time with your uncle.

You unpack your suitcase and put away everything that you had taken out. You couldn't help but think of what might happen next. You shake your head, thinking of something else to distract your mind. You sigh to yourself and look out the window.

You sit at your desk and look at your deck. You thought that you were a decent duellist but you weren't amazing or anything, that's what you thought at least. You hear the bedroom door open, revealing your uncle who had seen your deck in your hands. He proposes, "Why don't we have a little duel?" You say, "I don't know, uncle, I'm not very good at it." Pegasus said, "Oh really? Your father said otherwise, my dear."

*****Ten minutes later*****

Pegasus was amazed, "You underestimate yourself, Y/N." You said, "I don't know, I guess I'm good at coming up with strategies and things like that. I wouldn't say that I'm amazing at it, I'm decent enough at it to know some of the basic concepts of it." Pegasus said, "You have to be more confident in yourself, Y/N. The more you practice it, the better and less hesitant you will be. Duelling is like riding a bike. You lose a duel which is like falling off of a bike, you keep trying and trying until you can ride the bike on your own, it's the same with duelling. The more experience you have with duelling, the better you will be at it and the more confident you'll be in yourself. It's okay to lose a duel, you learn from your mistakes and figure out a counter strategy for it the next time it happens." You said, "So you're saying I should practice duelling to boost my self-confidence?" He shakes his head, "I'm not saying that you should, I'm saying that whenever something gets in the way of your goal, you have to push through the obstacle and keep going, no matter the situation."

You were back in your room, thinking of the discussion from before. Maybe he was right, all you need is a push and a boost of encouragement.
