Taking her from Gaoguis arms, Mo Yuan cradled her gently in his own. Holding her close he turned as her family arrived but the tears that were streaming down his face instantly had the tears in their own gathering.
Rushing forward, the Empress and her father reached out to take her, but Mo Yuan would not release his grip.
"Mo Yuan, give her to me." Bai Zhi snapped, though the tears were also sitting heavily on his own lashes.
"No, she is mine!" he choked out as he held onto her lifeless body.
Forcing himself towards her, Bai Zhi lowered a finger to her nose, as Mo Yuan glared menacingly at him, watching his every move.
But as he pulled back, the tears gave way. Turning to the Empress, he shook his head. "She's gone." he whispered.
Collapsing in his arms, a mothers wailing could be heard for miles as she cried along with her husband. But it was the scream from Bai Zhen that had them quickly gathering him into their embrace along with Zhe Yan.
But Mo Yuan heard none of it, he only heard the roaring in his head. He had lost her and nothing else mattered.
"Father, let's get her back to the Mountain, we can take better care of her there." he suggested as his arm enveloped his waist to guide him forward.
He didn't hear him, nor did he feel himself being led, his mind had gone inward and no once could reach him.
The trip back was the longest and most painful for them all. The jubilant roaring of the multitudes that filled the sky around them were just as oblivious to their pain as they were to their joy at having finally been given back their energy.
Many screamed her name in reverence as they passed them by, but the small group who made their way back to Kunlun Mountain were unseen by them all, being far too happy to notice the tears of sorrow, when they were all crying tears of happiness.
The tears rained down his face, his heart felt so heavy that every breath was laboured, and his mind was numb that any thoughts that tried to take hold were instantly thrown out, he couldn't think, he merely held her as tightly as he could with his face rested against her hair as Gaogui led him home.
The Mountain had suffered so much damage, even his own chamber was unusable, so taking her to the Grand Hall which had not fared much better, he lay her down on the Platform where he sat himself down, refusing to move out of the way and nor allowing anyone else near her.
To think she had done so much, lived through so much, only to end up dead in the end, he thought sadly to himself. He was unreachable, not even Gaogui could move him, it was as if he too was dead. He saw nothing but her beautiful face. Weeping and heartbroken his head fell upon her chest sobbing uncontrollably.

Opening her eyes, it took her some time to gather her thoughts, but the memory of what had happened was still very strong in her mind. The bright white light that surrounded her was disorientating that for the longest moment she couldn't tell if she was dead or alive.
Sitting up, she looked herself over. Besides the fact that she felt great, as if she had slept for a week, there didn't seem to be any wounds or injuries that she could see. So standing tentatively, her eyes began to search the bright light for something tangible.
The light was so bright that she imagined that it was as pure as it could get, it felt alive yet it did not hurt her eyes, if anything it felt like pure energy, as high as it gets but not harmful to her which had her wondering if perhaps she had indeed died.
