You sit alone outside the castle. You want to be alone right now, and you don't want to see anyone.

You love Marcus. When you were first brought into the Volturi ranks, you didn't expect to fall in love with anyone, until you met Marcus. You fell in love with him, and you're still in love with him.

But it's not that simple. Marcus had a wife once, Didyme. Her death apparently scarred him, changed him. You wish you could have known him as he was back then, but he's not the same person.

Every day you have felt that pressure, the pressure to be more like her. The vampires around here hardly ever speak of her, but you've heard about her, heard what a great person she was. You never got to meet her, so you don't know what she was really like. But if she really was that great, then it makes you feel very inferior to her.

 "Y/N?"

You look up to see Marcus himself standing in the doorway.

"Did you come looking for me?" you ask.

"Of course I did," he answers. "You disappeared so suddenly? What is it, Y/N? You look so sad."

"You told me about your wife once. Didyme. I know it hurts to bring her up, but I feel like I should. Marcus, she sounds like she was such a great person, and I'm sure she was. I don't think you know what it's like to have to step into the shoes of someone like that."

From the look on his face, you can tell he doesn't, so you go on. "I'm not trying to whine or complain. Really, I'm not. I just felt this...pressure. You know, to be like her. But I don't think I can."

"Y/N." Marcus kneels down beside you so the two of you are eye-to-eye. "Have I ever asked you to? Did you never think that I just want you to stay the way you are?"

You look at him, and you realize what he means. Without a word, you smile and hug him. He seems to understand, though, because he chuckles and says, "All right, then. Let's forget about this, shall we? Let me bring you back down, back home."
