Cancer~Zacky Vengeance

"What do you want to name her?" The doctor asked, turning to look back at me as he helped the nurses clean off my baby girl. I was writing the name on the certificate and I looked over at my wife with a smile.

She nodded and I wrote the name down. "Scarlett Elise Baker," I murmured as I checked the spelling and the names. "There we go doctor," I said, smiling proudly as I handed over the certificate. He smiled and said, "I'll leave you alone with them."

He and the nurses left the room and I went to go sit on the bed with my wife and daughter. "Look at her Zacky," she said quietly, smiling tiredly at our daughter. "She's beautiful," she added in a murmur. I smiled and put an arm around her, saying, "Just like her mother." She turned to look up at me with a sigh, "You're so cheesy... I love it." I laughed and said, "Well, miss Maya, I would hope so... considering you married me and all."

She laughed quietly and tucked the blanket closer around Scarlett. "I can't believe we have a baby," I said as I looked down at the small blue eyed human in Maya's arms.

"Me neither," she agreed, adding, "But I mean that in a good way." I nodded and leaned my head against hers. When I least expected it, the door banged open and my eyes found their way to Scarlett, who opened her eyes in an alarmed curiosity.

Before she could start crying, Maya got her calmed down and gave the boys a dirty look. "Seriously? I know you've got a new niece but come on," she smirked as Matt ducked his head and walked over to us. "So which of our names did you use?" Brian asked cockily and I sighed in mock frustration, "Bri, we had a daughter, not a son." He smiled and went back to chewing his gum.

"Really though, what did you name her?" Johnny asked, leaning against the wall. "Scarlett Elise," I answered, noticing the way Jimmy smiled. "You named her after Maya's mom?" I nodded, rubbing Maya's shoulder gently. "The middle name, anyway. Scarlett was one that we both thought sounded cool and... yeah," I laughed awkwardly and smiled at Maya. She smiled back before she nodded to Scarlett, asking, "Do you want to hold her?"

I nodded and I leaned down so Maya wouldn't have to reach her arms up so far when she was hooked up to machines with tangled wires. I carefully stood up with her in my arms, adjusting her blanket and position as I did.

"Guys, meet your new niece," I said, before asking Jimmy if he wanted to hold her. "Really?" He asked in surprise, his eyes lighting up when I nodded.

He took her into his arms, making her look even smaller compared to him. He looked down at her with a small smile and a sparkle in his eyes. I went over to Maya and crouched down, whispering, "What do you think about making Jimmy the godfather?" I asked and she nodded, grinning tiredly. "That's a great idea Zacky," she mumbled, leaning her head back. "You know, you can go to sleep, we won't be upset in the least bit," I told her, looking up to see Jimmy handing her gently to Matt, who he told to sit down cause he was a "super klutz who needed to learn to walk" as he put it.

Maya shook her head, putting her hand on mine. "You know why I'm staying awake... I'm already going to miss so much... I just want to be there for as much as I can."

I shook my head, swallowing against the lump in my throat. "Come on Maya, they said they could help," I said, my voice strangled sounding. She smiled sadly and sighed. "Zacky, they gave me a year to live after I found out I was pregnant. I don't think–"

"Maya, they told you last month you'd have a year, remember? They said our baby girl would be a year or almost a year when... it happens," I argued gently, rubbing her hand.

"I know," she murmured, watching as Brian held Scarlett, "But I don't want to go so early, I want to stay." She started crying and I tried not to as I calmed her down. The guys didn't notice us, thankfully. They don't know how bad it is. They know she has cancer, but they don't know that it progressed to stage 4 a month ago.
