I smiled over at Gerard as I watched the twins (who are now 8) playing with their little sister, Callie, who's 7. She's only a year younger, but of course that doesn't stop Skar and Jackson from teasing her.
I noticed that Jackson was picking on Skarlette this time. "Moooommm!! Daaaaadd!" She yelled, "Can I throw a ball at his nugget face?!"
I had to hold back laughter and I could see Gerard doing the same out the corner of my eye. "I can't help it you have noodle arms!" I faintly heard Jackson retort and I saw Callie watching in amusement.
"Mom!" I laughed, "I know, Skar, I can't stop him. But don't throw a ball at him. We have to go home anyway, we have a surprise for you." We left the park and went to get in the car, heading back to the house. We got back and I helped the kids out of the backseat, sighing as I realised we probably needed a van. Just the thought of it makes me shudder.
"You ok Riley?" Gerard asked from behind me, an amused expression hiding the concern. "Uhhh, yeah, um . . . just thinking about something stupid."
He shrugged and pulled me to him, kissing my cheek. I had a feeling I was blushing but I went to unlock the door anyway. The kids all ran inside and Gerard put his hand on my waist as we walked in. "You ready for the surprise yet?" I asked, earning excited nods from all of them.
Gerard nodded at me and I went to the cage that had food and water in it in the dining room. And of course, the actual surprise itself.
"Ok Hailey, you ready to surprise them?" The chocolate brown lab (puppy) in the cage wagged her tail happily and whined. Her brown eyes were pleasing and I smiled at her, petting her soft fur through the cage. "Alright, run free!"
She ran down the hallway as soon as I pulled the door open, and into the living room. I heard the kids cries of happiness and Gerard was standing in a sassy way in the kitchen (the picture above).
I laughed and closed my eyes, shaking my head as I walked up to him. "Aaaannnnddd, any specific reason you're standing like this?" I asked as I put my arms around his neck. He laughed and stood in a normal way again, putting his arms around my waist as he responded, "No, not really."
He was about to kiss me, but I seen Hailey running at I'm full speed. Just when she raised up on her hind legs, I stepped away from Gerard and laughed as Hailey knocked him to the ground, laying on top of him and whimpering.
I snickered and Callie, Skarlette, and Jackson came to stand in the doorway, looking like the badass kids do when they get in trouble on tv or something. It was hilarious. I kneeled next to Gerard and helped him up, pulling him into the living room with me.
We sat on the couch and Hailey jumped up into our laps and the kids all crowded around her. "So you like her?" Gerard asked, a hint of pride in his voice. They all nodded happily, "I love her!" Skar responded, followed by Jackson and Callie.
"She's the best thing ever!"
"I think Hailey is gonna be my new best friend!"
I had to agree with Callie, I thought as I laid my head on Gerard's shoulder. I think she is gonna be our new best friend.
