Josh
I stared around at all the rubble that used to be a town and sighed. Where do we go from here? I sat down on what used to be my front yard, after making sure I wouldn't sit on something sharp or someone, and put my head in my hands. I glared up at the greyish sky and suddenly realised something–I went into that basement with my best friend . . . where is she?

My other best friend, Tyler, came running up to me flustered and out of breath. "Have you seen Y/N?" He asked frantically, looking around for his sister. I shook my head, feeling the panic rise, "No, she was with me but she disappeared. Tyler, I'm so sorry, I swear I thought she was right there. She . . . she said she was gonna go see if it was over, you know, by the radio in the basement. I didn't see her after that."

He sat next to me and said, "It's ok, Josh. You wouldn't intentionally let anything happen to her. Why would you let someone you love die?" I shrugged then turned my head to look at him, "How did you know I like her?"

Tyler laughed and said, "I know these things. I'm ok with it, just don't hurt her." I laughed dryly, "We need to find her first. Then I promise not to hurt her." Tyler smiled and slapped my back lightly, "Come on, let's go."

"Go where?" He gave me a look that said 'seriously?' so I stood up and went with him. "To find my sister, dumbass," he muttered playfully and I laughed. "That's the nicest thing you've ever called me, TyTy," I cried jokingly, hugging him. "Get off!" He exclaimed loudly, pushing me away.

We stopped joking around after a while as we walked through the destroyed streets. People were beginning to step out of the rubble, looking at what used to be their homes, looking at their lives scattered across the neighbourhood.

A lot of people were hugging each other, sitting in the rubble sobbing, or just holding onto their pets/valuables. I don't blame them, I'd be doing the same. I probably will later, but I have to find my other best friend.

As we turned the corner, I seen something that made my heart stop, break, and hurt as my stomach twisted. "Y/N!" I screamed, grabbing Tyler by the sleeve and running. She was partially covered by a bookshelf so Tyler and I started trying to pull it off of her. I finally got it off her after Tyler stopped and went to protect her head from getting hurt by something falling. "Come on, Ty, we gotta get her to the hospital o-or something, look at her," I said, motioning to her arm, which was bent at a sickening angle, her bloodied head, and battered body.

I ran a hand through my hair and studied her. He nodded and we picked her up, Tyler holding her under her arms and my holding her legs.

The hospital didn't have much damage, thankfully, but there were a lot of people here. I guess that's what happens when a tornado hits your town. They took her back, immediately working on her arm.

"Yeah, that's a nasty break," one nurse commented, trying to fix it gently and grimacing when it turned to the right place. I almost threw up, so I turned away quickly. Tyler looked a bit green in the face but I think he was only still watching so he could see if something was wrong.

"You boys need to go to the waiting room so we can run some tests," one of the nurses said, gently pushing us out of the room. "I understand you want to know what's happening as it's happening, but I promise we'll keep you updated." She smiled apologetically and we went out to the waiting room. Tyler fell asleep and I stared at a spot on the wall across the room. I seen other people coming in and I sighed. "Josh?" Someone said my name and I looked up to see my mom. "Mom!" I shouted, running over and hugging her tightly.

She hugged back just as tight and asked, "Why're you here? Nothing seems to be wrong . . . " I smiled wearily and said, "Nah, it's not me . . . it's Y/N."

Her eyes widened and she gasped, "No . . ." I nodded, "Yeah, uh . . . there's one of her nurses now. Hang on, I'll be back out in a bit. Tyler!" He jolted awake and I nodded my head toward the nurse.

"Mr. Joseph and Mr. Dun?" She asked, smiling and we nodded, questions fixing to spill out of our mouths. She cut us off  by raising her hand and said, "She's cleaned up and ready for visitors but she's still asleep." I nodded, "Thanks nurse."

She smiled before going off to another family. Tyler pulled my distracted self down the hallway and into her room. All air left my lungs and I started shaking as I flopped into the chair next to her bed. After a few minutes of me thinking and spacing out, Tyler put his hand on my shoulder. "Are you ok?" He asked and I shrugged, glancing over at Y/N. "I should be asking you that, Tyler. She's your sister . . . how're you holding up?"

He sighed softly and said, "I don't know. I'm mainly numb. Do you want anything in the cafeteria?" He asked, adding, "Well, whatever survived the storm." I smiled faintly and shrugged, "Whatever you can find is ok with me."

"Alright, I'll be back," he mumbled and disappeared through the door which clicked softly behind him. I turned to Y/N. I sighed as I pushed some of her h/c hair out of her face, avoiding the bruises and bandages that covered it. I wished she would wake up, I wished she'd be ok.

I finally broke down and started crying, muttering, "Stay alive, Y/N, stay alive for me" over and over. Eventually, I heard footsteps so I hurried to wipe my eyes and grabbed a pair of sunglasses from my pants pocket. Weird, but I didn't question it. "Hey Josh, I found some muffins in– hey, are you okay?" He asked, coming forward and sitting next to me. He pulled away the glasses and sighed, smiling sympathetically. "I know . . . I know. I get it. You remember Jenna?" He asked and I nodded before he said, "Well, turns out she got hurt too, and uh . . . you know how much I like her."

He scratched his neck as he trailed off awkwardly. "At least we have each other, right? It's times like these when we need our friends the most." He nodded, "Right-o. Let's eat these muffins."

Awkward ending but I didn't wanna drag it out.
