{in 9th grad, btw}
Laughing at something my best friend said, I nearly ran into the lockers. He laughed and carefully pulled me out of someone's way. "Calm down, Ashes, it wasn't that funny," Mikey said, laughing himself as he used my nickname. "Aw shut up! I can't help it that I found it funnier than I should've!" I exclaimed, laughing again when he pulled me closer to him and pushed me away playfully.I ran into his older brother, Gerard, and apologised and quickly blamed Mikey. "Look, dude, your brother did it," I said through laughter at the fake expression of horror on the younger brother's face. Gerard smirked and playfully scolded Mikey, "Come on, Mikes, you know that's child abuse." My jaw dropped in pretend offence, "You take that back!" Gerard shook his head and stuck out his tongue, "Never!"
We went outside and met up with our other two friends Frank and Ray. "Hey short stuff, fro man," I greeted as we walked up. Frank nodded in my direction–I couldn't tell if he was actually looking at me or not because he was wearing sunglasses– and Ray smiled happily and gave me a side hug.
"Sup Ashes," he returned and I groaned. "Seriously? I haven't fallen into any other fireplaces since. . . two months ago!" I exclaimed, joining them in laughing at me.
Mikey smiled at me and rolled his eyes before he motioned for me to get in the car. He opened the back door and instead of holding it for me like I'd thought he would, he jumped in in front of me. I laughed and was pushed into the backseat nearly on top of him. "Jesus, who pushed me?" I asked, turning to see a smirking Frank.
"Gotcha," he said, shutting the door before I could do anything. I turned to look at Mikey and we stared at each other before we burst out laughing. I moved over to the other side of the backseat and buckled up.
It was awkwardly silent while we waited for Gerard and his girlfriend Claire to get in.
POV switch to Mikey :)
While we waited, I watched as the broken and beautiful girl next to me staring out the window impatiently. I smiled a little at the way her pale skin shone in the sun streaming down through the leaves and into the car. Not like Twilight glittery bullshit but like, she just... wow. Her navy blue hair seemed even darker today, signalling she must've re-dyed it again last night or something and her grey eyes watched the world carefully from behind a guarded wall.
She was always careful not to show any emotion for fear that it would be used against her. I just wish I could help her. She doesn't want anyone to worry, but she struggles and it kills me knowing that I can't help.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when she turned to look at me and her lips turned upward in a smile as her eyes flittered away from mine and a light pink tint was brought to her cheeks. "Mikey, stop staring," she giggled lightly and pushed my shoulder gently.
I smiled again and said, "Sorry, I just. . . zoned out, I guess." She rolled her eyes, "Always zoning out. You're lucky I saved you from Mrs. Brinker earlier." I rolled my eyes, "You're lucky I saved you from another fireplace incident, Ashes."
She glared playfully and tried not to smile (and failed). "Hush," she looked away as she bit her lip to avoid smiling. Suddenly she turned to me with a sick look on her face. "What?" I asked immediately alarmed. "How do I unsee that?"
I turned to find Gerard and Claire had got a little sidetracked. "That's. . . uncomfortable," I said, looking away quickly. I'd rather not watch my brother and his girlfriend make out, thanks but no thanks.
Finally, they headed back to the car and I got distracted from my previous bit of conversation with Ashley as Gerard was asking me questions.
