Will you be alright, if I let go of your hand?
Just for a second. I swear.
Just before that, I will tell you about the words written on my heart.
I will guide you by that hand, the one that is about to let mine go.
I know all of the lines from memory.
Will you remember me on the long road ahead?
It feels cold as your hand slips out of mine.
I watch you go, watch the banter between the two of you.
Oh how I remember the times from all those decades ago.
Cuddling up on our bed on an early morning. Hiding in between the sheets.
Your uncle' face when you, once again, decided to decorate his beard with ornaments as he slept.
That first day of winter when you felt the cold touch of the snow.
It was so foreign to you.
Now, it is as uneventful to you as falling asleep at night.
Those stars in your eyes, I have watched them slipping away recently.
They are not yet lost in the one who walks in your steps, only a few feet behind.
Yet he is catching up on you.
Far too fast.
Together you march at a slightly lower pace than my brother dear.
I fear for the hardships that lay ahead.
I fear the restless nights that will threaten my sanity.
Yet I can not speak a single word to anyone.
We have to be strong, for you, for the ones who take that road with you.
Let them lend my healing touch and my loving heart.
My eyes that follow every move you make, every step you take.
Allow me to get to a point where I'm able to see her in her wedding dress.
Don't let your coat get stained by your own blood.
Return to me as you are leaving now.
With only new memories to laugh about.
I trust that you will be alright, now that I've let go of your hand.
