This is something that popped into my head about one week ago...
Look people, I can't make it more fan fiction like than this :P
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You turned the map for what felt like the hundreth time that day. The streets and alleyways were against you. There was no other explanation for it.
Just like the stairs in Harry Potter, the streets were moving around as you walked through them. And there was that annoying fountain again! The first time you saw it the fountain had shone like it was an undiscovered gem. Now it was irritating and in the way.
You stalked over to the garbage can, trying to cram the map in there. For some reason it wasn't working.
The garbage can was too full so it wouldn't go in fully.
When you gave up, glaring at it instead, it fell out and was carried off by the wind.
You sighed. "Why?"
Anyone who saw what happened would probably agree that you liked destroying the eco system. At least that was the thought that crossed your mind.
So the only real choice you had was to run after the map. No imaginary people were allowed to think you liked littering. You would show them!
10 minutes later
Panting heavily you put all your strength into shoving the map into the garbage can. This time it didn't fall out. It stayed in. A victory smile spread across your face, reminding you that this was the grown-up life.
You turned around to follow your gut. It would probably show you the way to the stores faster than your map would.
Your thoughts wandered in all directions as you passed by the sign that read 'mall' and pointed in the other direction. This was a whole new life for you in a whole new country. The new adventure you had embarked on was just beginning.
Who knew what was going to happen next?
The only problems you were facing were;
1. You couldn't find the grocery store. Which could be life threatening if you wouldn't be able to find it within the next few days.
2. You had no idea where to look for a job. But that... well, that was problematic as well. Maybe you should ask your father - Oh no, wait, you hadn't heard from him since you were three years old. Your mother would probably know what to do next.
The road just continued on and on, leading you through small streets with the cutest houses you had ever seen. One day you would live here.
"One day."
Oh no, you said that out loud. You scanned the area around you. No one around. You sighed. At least you weren't yet known as the village freak. Not yet.
Your feet were starting to hurt. The map had lead you in every direction and now your feet were doing the same thing. You were starting to question their ability of leading the way when- "A BOOKSTORE!"
At the end of the street, covered in shadow by a large oak tree, stood a blue wood paneled shop. On it was a brown sign that read, 'Durin' Books'.
Suddenly your whole body forgot it was tired. You hurried down the street, completely forgetting about your side mission to not be the village freak. Already.
Forget about the bills that were due. Forget about the food that was not yet in your home. Books would give you air. They would give you everything you needed if you could just hold them and sniff them.
A little bell rang as you entered the shop. You didn't take the time to stop and greet the owner. All you could think of was finding out whether or not this would be your favorite shop in town.
Its chances were great.
There even was a little section in the store where you could sit in front of a fireplace. And they also sold tea here! Maybe... No... Could it be?
In the back of the store was a door that lead to a garden... A beautiful garden where people were sitting and reading books.
"Heaven" you said in awe.
"People tend to call us 'welcoming' and 'casual', but I've never heard the reference with a religious resting place."
You had to tear your eyes from the comfy lookin chairs to see who was talking to you. And your mouth dropped.
A man who was barely taller than you, with long black hair tied back in a ponytail was standing there. His arms were crossed as he leaned against one of the bookshelves. He was wearing a white shirt with a navy blue vest that allowed some of his chest hair to poke out at the top.
It took all the strength that you had within you not to drool.
"H-hi" you stammered.
The man smiled. "Hello. Are you new in town? I have never seen you before."
You nodded. "Y-yes, I believe I am." You mentally slapped yourself. "I mean, I know I am new in town. No question about it I'm new."
The man watched you with an amused twinkle in his eyes. "Definitely new then. If there is anything I can help you with, please let me know."
"I will let you know" you said, nodding along.
"Also, we don't just have books we also serve tea. And my friend who maintains the garden also wants me to inform you that he bakes the cookies. They are quite delicious may I add." He pointed towards the counter. "I'll try not to eat them all before you have ordered any."
Dimpels appeared in his cheeks.
Now that was simply unfair.
He almost turned around before he stopped himself. "I think you might like to look over there." He pointed at a bookshelf at the other end of the shop. "There are the young adult books. I'm sure there is something you like over there."
Now you really felt like hitting yourself. "Is it that obvious?"
The man chuckled. "It is just a lucky guess, don't worry about it. Now, if there is anything I can help you with?"
You smiled. "Actually, finding this shop has already made my week. The only thing you could possibly help me with now is giving me a job." You laughed.
He didn't laugh with you. Instead he looked you over. "Take your résumé with you. Does ten work for you?"
Maybe you should really start hitting yourself, just as a hobby. "Excuse me?"
"Ten it is then. I expect you to be here on time tomorrow morning. If your résumé looks good, you'll have job. Not that I will really look at it. I just need it for the paper work." He rubbed the back of his head. "The point is that I really need someone and you are the first applicant. I don't mind having to train you."
The only thing you could do now was looking at him with your mouth wide open.
"Great, I will see you tomorrow morning then." He stopped when he felt a light tap on his shoulder.
"Can you tell me where the grocery store is? Food would also be grand."
