Serious trigger warnings for this chapter. I felt like I needed to make it and it is supposed to be a positive message.
Why we love The Hobbit...
Or The Lord of the Rings for that matter...
is because it is a tale about preserverance. The dwarves never gave up even when they lost their home to a fire-breathing dragon.
And even though the world declared Thorin mad for trying to win back his mountain, he went anyway. On a suicide mission with only a few dwarves, a wizard and a hobbit by his side. He had a dream, a wish to fight for.
Even then he didn't loose hope.
He knew that the odds were against him. That is was very likely that he would loose some of his companions. That he might not even make it back himself. And even when he wasn't king of Erebor for that long, he did what he set out to do.
A brave little hobbit joined this quest. He didn't know if he would ever return to his comfortable home. Nor did he know if he would get all the food he needed in one day.
Most of the time he didn't. And still he stayed.
He set out to do something for someone else. For a folk he didn't know before they rampaged his house.
He went with a wizard whom he only knew from simpler times. And even when he had his doubts he still went with them. Because he had a pure heart and wanted to do what was right.
Bilbo was brave in the eye of all danger he faced.
I could include the other races in this but I don't think of them as fondly so it wouldn't work for what I am trying to accomplish here.
I know that there are times that can be hard. Sometimes you might even think that it is not worth it anymore.
Mornings can feel like another obstacle in your day. Why would you get out of bed when you already 'know' what the day is going to be like? Why would you bother making most of it when your life lays on the ground, shattered into pieces?
And when night comes you might pray that you are taken away from the world that night. If it can just happen in your sleep so that is not really your fault and your family and friends won't hurt as much... not as much as they would if you did it with your own hand.
When people say it is all going to be better in time, and on the outside all you do is laugh. While on the inside you wish and you pray that those good times will finally arrive. Maybe you have already stopped believing...
If you know you live in an unsafe environment, either by your family members your lover or your friend, and people say; "You should really move out of that house." Don't you just want to laugh and ask;
"I know that, are you going to buy me a house? No? Oh, then are you going to give me a job so that I can rent my own place? Also no... Well, can I stay with you for a while then until I find a good job? No..."
Why do other people have 'good' lives and you don't. I can tell you that most people have their own stories to tell. And the ones that don't have had a lot of luck in this life. For some reason that luck isn't given to anyone.
