The days passed far too quickly for my liking. Before I was ready to admit it, it was time for the attack on Skywalker. As the sun set on the ocean, we stealthily made our way to where Luke hid. Qavis had shown Kylo this place already, and now, he and Ta'ar had taken to the sky as our air cover. Forsythe, Yur'ama, myself, and Kylo were slowly making our way to Luke.
We reached dry land and quietly fired cables up the cliff face, and Kylo somehow silenced the sound of their landing. We scaled the rocks and stood atop the outcropping.
"Qavis said that Skywalker would be in that cave over there." I pointed to a small cave about a mile off. "If we can corner him in there, we will win."
"Then let's go." Kylo was tense ad ready for action, I could feel the adrenaline rolling off of him. I did not need the Force to sense his excitement.
"Don't be too reckless, guys. We need to wear him down. Keep Skywalker on his toes. He's an old man now, and he is human. He has vulnerabilities and weaknesses too. You have to use them." I looked at Kylo. "You know Skywalker, what're his weaknesses?"
"He's a Jedi. He's all about mercy and harmony. He won't kill you unless he has to, and having me around will help. Trust me. Skywalker thinks that any Dark Jedi is redeemable and if we go on that conversation path, end him." He obviously knew Luke very well from his time at Luke's New Jedi Order.
He walked to the mouth of the cave. It seemed he sensed Luke's presence. "Luke Skywalker! I would like a word!" Kylo stood there, and then I saw him, for the first time ever in real life.
Luke walked out of the cave looking older and more woebegone than I had ever seen him in images. He looked at Kylo and even I could feel his pain. "Ben, is that-"
"It's Kylo Ren." He interjected, obviously not caring if the others knew. "And you are going to die."
"Is this what you think you want? To kill me? I can sense the other beings out there. They're killers, assassins, amoral beings. You are better than this, Ben!" Luke gazed up at Kylo, full of misguided ideals and desires. I could barely hear them. I was more than an assassin; I was slightly insulted.
"I'm bringing order to a galaxy where you threw it into chaos."
"The Rebellion saved the galaxy." Luke looked a little more angry now. "The Emperor deserved death, and the Empire needed to end."
"But you brought so much chaos and disorder. You are the cause of the instability, and you unbalanced the Force. Your time is done, Luke. It's the end." Kylo drew my lightsaber and walked slowly closer.
I signaled for the other two snipers to follow me. We needed to be there to back up Kylo if he required it.
"I don't want to fight you." Luke threw off his heavy overrobe and faced Kylo.
Despite our plans, I felt a knot of fear in my stomach. If Kylo died, I did not know what I would do."Then that will make killing you easier." Kylo flourished his saber and thrust at Luke.
Luke dodged and drew his own green saber and retaliated. Watching them fight was like watching a light show. They moved quickly, most likely augmented with the power of their Force. Luke was the superior fighter, but Kylo had an edge in strength.
I watched them fight to the edge of the cliff and I ran closer, ready to fire a cable to catch Kylo.
"Stay... Out... Of.... This!" Kylo yelled at us as we drew near. "This is my fight!"
I watched, anxiety curling up in my chest like a monster preparing to sleep for a century. Kylo was leaning backwards over the edge and Luke had him in a saber lock.
Then, it happened. Almost too fast for my eyes to catch, he drew his old Jedi saber and stabbed Luke in the short amount of time he had. It had been a risky move. Kylo had been holding his old saber with both hands. When he had let go of his saber with one hand, he had about a second before he died.
Kylo spun quickly and released his red saber from Luke's body, then kicked the fresh killed Master off the cliff, with his old lightsaber with it.
He walked back to me wordlessly. I kissed him on the cheek. We had ended it. No casualties on our part had occurred either.
"Wow. We didn't do anything." Yur'ama and Forsythe remarked.
"You'll get paid your extra. If you can, leave with Qavis." I smiled thinly. "When all of us are gathered, we can go our separate ways. Thank you for your time."
