Hiccup's P.O.V

The fire had gone out sometime early in the night. How did I know? Because when I woke up the cold was all I could feel. It dulled the ache in my body but also froze all my other senses. I was stiff and struggled to sit up. It felt as if someone had tightly wrapped a cold blanket around me and I couldn't shake it off.

The rock of the cave walls were damp from the morning dew and ice cold to the touch. A pile of black scorched sticks laid in front of me with sections of wood that hadn't been tainted by the heat of the wavering fire. Even if I wanted to relight it, the wood was too damp to catch a flame and the smoke would draw too much attention to my hiding spot. I rested my head against the rock and shut my eyes, trying to block the noise coming from above the cave and from the beach in front of me. For an island that looked so dead and empty it was surly noisy.

I've escaped.

It was all I could think about since I had time to rest. The thought was both uplifting and discouraging. I'd escaped from Alvin's grasp but not entirely and he knew that. That is why he hasn't gone looking for me yet because without a boat, getting across the ocean was a task already proven impossible. Even if someone was to swim, any other island would be too far and you'd drown from exhaustion before you even got near a third of the way. He's letting me do as I want for the moment because he knows that without the chance of escape I'll finally lose my grasp on hope and eventually I'll become exactly like all his other prisoners. Spiritless and afraid. I'll do whatever he says and let him do what he wants to me. He's waiting for me to bow down to him and beg for death.

But if that's what he believe I am going to do, he's got another thing waiting for him. Everyone who is on this island believes I'm exactly like all the other prisoners. I'll fight for a little while before giving up. But that's not what's going to happen. I'm different from them. I was raised and taught by dragons. They taught me the means to survive, to feel what living truly is. They taught me when I am to admit defeat and when I must remain fighting to the very end. They taught me how to defend and protect the ones that are close to my heart and that is what I'm going to do. I may be one person but I'll fight. I'll fight for every person who lives on Berk or has lived their life on Berk. I'll fight every enemy that crosses my path and threatens their existence. Even if it forces my breath to become my last, I'll fight. Because even though I barley know any of them I don't need to know them to have the knowledge that they are good people that don't deserve to have enemys like Alvin affecting their lives.

Astrid's P.O.V

We had made our landing where we would not be found if someone wasn't looking. The sand crunched under the weight of my foot and the sound of crashing water was loud in my ears. The usual chill hung in the crisp air even though morning had long ago abandoned us and night was still far from our reach. My muscles and limbs ached painfully and my body was so stiff I was afraid I was going to fall over once I had dismounted from Toothless' back. The poor Nightfury was so exhausted  from the flight that as soon as he felt my weight lift from his back, he collapsed against the sand and fell asleep almost instantly. The Deadly Nadder cautiously approached him but ruffled her wings and shook her head when she found the dragon sound asleep.

I walked up to her and yawned, pressing the bottom of my palms against my heavy eyes. "Aren't you tired?" I asked her groggily.

She narrowed her big eyes down at me and shook her head again. I bowed my own  head understandingly. I was tired but the excitement and fear that clung to my chest repealed my dream of sleep. I had to many horrid memories from this place that stuck in the corner of my mind. Always there but only just enough to become irritating.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes trying to draw out a mental map of the island. The Nadder walked up to me and persistently nudged my shoulder. I shoved her head away from me and tried to redraw the map she had made me lose. The image started to form but it left me a little confused. The Nadder made a few concered squawks behind me but I dismissed them as her trying to get some attention.

"No that can't be right," I muttered out loud opening my eyes. "We saw the village from the air and landed on the opposite side but yet...this area is supposed to be where the village is, not on the other side of the island."

"Ah so you did notice the little changes we made to the island, smart isn't it?" A gruff voice bellowed from within the shadows.

Guards jumped up from behind rocks armed with crossbows and swords. The Nadder wrapped her sharp tail around me protectively, watching not to poke me with her spikes. Toothless sensed the outcasts and jumped to his feet growling low and dangerously, prepared to attack. A sudden click was make and a net was thrown into the air, restraining Toothless in it's bonds as he was to exhausted to dodge it quick enough. The Nadder ran over to the black dragon's side defended him against a few of the guards that dared to try and capture him. Another net was shot out by the Nadder was too quick on her feet and jumped out of the way in time before landing straight back to the ground. Alvin grunted and made a hand gesture to his men who immediately ran to the dragons trying to restrain the crazy Deadly Nadder. Now it was just both him and I.

My mind kept screaming at me to grab my axe and take him down but fear plastered my limbs and joints. Alvin smirked down at me as if he were reading what my mind spoke and within seconds my axe was suddenly in his hands. The light glinted off it's blade and lit up Alvin's horrid face.

"Nice peace of work this is," he admitted admiring the metal work. "I wouldn't mind one of these myself."

I narrowed my eyes and him and scowled, reaching down slowly to a thin pocket on the side of my skirt.

"Your parents had matching ones of these didn't they?" he questioned gazing up from the axe.

I ignored the statement and grasped a cool knife between my fingers. "Yes they did," I answered calmly.

"Oh Astrid I thought you'd be so much smarter then that," Alvin commended shaking his head in disappointment.

I grinded my teeth together and unshielded the knife from it's pocket. All the hatred and despair that had been kept far in the dark corner of my mind, with nothing to do but swell in size as the years passed after my parents had been murdered was unexpectedly released from it's cage, taking hold of the controls to my limbs. I lunged forwards to the man who had forced my mother and father's death upon them and had taken the only man my heart ever belonged to. With incredible speed the knife sliced through the air and when it's deadly tip was about to meet over Alvin's chest a weak hand took hold of my wrist which strangely made me abruptly stop. I was instantly pulled out of Alvin's reach and stood before the water's edge. The hand tugged at my wrist sharply before I felt my feet begin to run. Something had begun to stir in my chest which paralyzed me. With my heart beating fast within the confinements of my chest, my eyes lifted to the figure in front of me. A face of cuts and small wounds looked back at me. Bright, lively forest green eyes stared back into my watery blue ones that shimmered with the beginning of tears. How I had feared as the months past that I would ever forget that face. The face the brought love back into my life.

"Hiccup," my voice called.

He smiled at me with his goofy grin and called back to my name. "Astrid."
