Astrid's P.O.V
When morning had arrived the beautiful night was lost as dark clouds shielded the sky like a blanket and heavy rain poured down on the Island of Berk. I woke up in my bed feeling the effects of a late night catch up on me. I rubbed my groggy eyes and waited until my vision focused. It took me a moment before I remembered what I was to do today. As soon as I realized I jumped out of bed and quickly re-braided my hair that had come out during the night. I ran down the hall and grabbed my axe that leaned against the wall. I attached a leather strap to it so I could string it over my shoulder. Running to the kitchen I grabbed a small basket filled with fish. I was to excited and nervous to eat as I felt my stomach doing flips. I exited my house and forced myself to walk down to the blacksmith although my legs were burning with the need to run and it wasn't because of the rain.
Gobber waited patiently beside the hearth in the blacksmith resting in the heat away from the cold. He smiled when I came into view and led me to the room behind the wall. He picked up a large object and placed it in my hands. I smiled gratefully at him.
"I say that Hiccup's craftwork is truly spectacular," Gobber praised.
I smiled and nodded my head, "You have no idea."
Turning around Gobber hesitantly placed a hand on my shoulder returning my attention to him. He removed his hand quickly but held my gaze. "You be careful out there on that dragon," He ordered seriously but with a hint of a grin. "I don't want you comin' back here empty handed and injured, do you understand me?"
I inclined my head and replied, "I promise, and plus it's a nightfury, what could possibly go wrong?"
"Ah a friend said something similar to that many years ago, but if you keep a sharp look out and an open mind I'm sure nothin' will go wrong," he explained and waved him hand at me. "Now go, go do what you must."
"Thank you Gobber, for everything you've ever done for me," I thanked.
"Eh, it was nothin'," he replied.
I bit my lip and nodded before running out into the rain with an overwhelming excitement. While running through the village I noticed Valka standing outside her house, just under the little bit of shelter the house provided outside in the rain. She smiled and bowed her head before returning inside. Any other Vikings I passed didn't have time to question me about the object I as carrying as I was there one moment and gone the next.
The entrance to the cove came quick and I had barely noticed when I had entered the woods. I slipped through the wet rocks, careful not to knock the tailfin against anything. I spotted Toothless almost immediately as the eager dragon waited in the middle of the cove, his eyes glued to where I had entered. When my feet hit the ground Toothless and I both ran towards each other in a similar moon of excitement. The dragon nudged his head against the palm of my hand that wasn't holding the tailfin. I dropped the basket of fish and gently patted Toothless' head. The nightfury's attention suddenly caught at the few fish that slipped from the basket. I laughed and nudged them closer to Toothless with my foot.
"Go ahead, they're yours," I explained.
Toothless' eyes sparkled and he instantly dove his snout into the fish. I shook my head and moved over to his tail, where with a little bit of struggle I had managed to attack the newly repaired tailfin to the connection rod. I slowly inspected everything checking that it was all working as I guessed it should. Once satisfied that nothing was going to fall off once we had taken flight I moved back to where Toothless' head stuck in the basket. He pulled it out and stared at me with his big green eyes. I narrowed my eyes at the basket.
