Hiccup's P.O.V

After my escape I had somehow managed to run all the way on the other side of Outcast Island and to add to my good luck I found a shallow cave under the rocks across from the sandy beech. I set  up a fire and leaned against the wall of the cave completely exhausted. Now run out of adrenalin the pain of my actions returned, including the pain that began to grow in my wrist. I hissed and cradled it up against my chest. The sound of the crashing waves was soothing and slowly put me to sleep.

I looked up at the night sky for the first time in...I don't even know how long. The stared sparkled back at me as they hovered against the darkness, I imagined creating little circles of light that surrounded and protected them. I wondered if what the Vikings believed about Valhalla was true or not. I had never grown up to believe it as others had but at this moment I began to doubt what my opinion on the subject was. I took in a deep breath and closed my eyes, feeling the first real sense of peace in a long time.

Releasing my breath I reached out to my top that laid on the ground next to me.  It had survived the ordeal with Alvin fairly well as Alvin preferred to take my top off before he began his horrid torture. Only a few small rips were seen here and there. I had laid it near the fire to warm it up before I put it back on. Before doing so I inspected all the fresh cuts Alvin had given me in the morning. Most had stopped bleeding but a few of the deepest ones still had small beads of blood forcing through. I whipped them away with my hand and pulled my top over my head. The material laid gently on my raw skin and the sleeves offered a touch of extra warmth in my arms against the cold chill of the night. All would have been perfect if it wasn't for my growling stomach. Most of the time Alvin on let the guards give me a cup of water and a small loaf of stale bread once a day. He wasn't exactly starving me but I'd say it was pretty close.

I laid myself gently onto the ground in a possession that didn't cause my body to ache severely. The sky was still visible and for once I smiled a genuen smile. The thought that Toothless was closer to me then he had been in the morning gave me hope that I would be seeing him real soon again. And hopefully Astrid too. I was sick of the feeling this island gave off as if everything was dead and empty, even what looked to hold life was just empty. But it also felt as if it was those Outcast that had done this to the island. They destroyed ever edge of it to create what they believed to be home.

I picked up a thin stick that laid close to my reach and stuck one end in the greedy, flickering tongues that latched at it at once. I could feel the heat emanated from the flames, as it crawled onto my hand that possessed the other end of the stick. I pulled it out of the fire and watched as the few tiny flames that held on burnt away at the wood turning it black and weak. This is what Alvin does to his victims, he burns them with a greedy desire to watch their pain as the wither and weaken under his flames. Their hope turns black once Alvin has destroyed it and without the stable structure of their hope, the victim's spirit weakens to a point where Alvin can bend and twist at it all he wants. But I wasn't going to let that happen. I don't care what he does to me or what he did to me. I was going to fight for my freedom and now I have done it. Here I am sitting out beside a fire with no Viking in sight. Sure I may be a little battered up...alright a lot, but if that was the price to pay I'll pay it. I'll do what non of the others in the jail did and I wont just fight for my own freedom, I'll fight for theirs too. If I do managed to escape from this island, I'll make sure that I come back for the rest and that is a promise.

Toothless' P.O.V

I laid out by the side of the lake. I watched as a few fish swam around in the liquid without a care in the world. Since they weren't in any immediate danger they had no reason to hide and with the darkness of the night blending with my scales, I was practically invisible to them. I rested my head upon my crossed legs and watched.

A small sense of excitement bubbled in me but a bigger feeling of doubt over run it. I just couldn't properly catch the idea that I really was going to go find Hiccup and bring him back. Astrid's plan was well thought out but there just seemed to be so many problems that she hadn't thought about. It seemed to easy because how would we just find Hiccup straight away and get him without a single guard noticing? What if Hiccup is somewhere that we can't find him? I shook my head and stood up. I twisted my tail around so I could see the one tailfin that remained. I growled and nodded my head. It didn't matter what was going to go wrong there, so long as we rescue Hiccup safe and sound then I don't care what else happens.

There was a loud squawk being me and I immediately spun around growled, prepared to attack. A Deadly Nadder landed hesitantly a few meters away. I growled at her once again but she just crouched down low and squawked again. I looked her up and down and noticed she didn't want to fight me but ask something. I cautiously moved closer to her until we were both at a comfortable distance. She muttered a few more squawked questioning me if she were aloud to attend my journey to rescue the human boy. I snarled at the name she gave Hiccup and explained that he is just as dragon as he is human. The Naddered squawked an apology and replied that she had taken a strong liking to the human girl that was to accompany me.

Never have I ever met another dragon that wasn't from home that took an interest in a Viking. When I asked her why she just shook her head and said that the girl had saved her life once before, from a pack of wild boars just a few weeks ago. I realized that the Nadder was young but only a year younger then I was. I questioned her why she didn't defend herself and she said she was badly injured and showed a deep cut along he hind leg that had begun healing. I was unsure of whether I trusted her.

We talked for 20 more minutes before reaching an agreement. The Nadder was permitted to come as long as on the journey back she carried the human girl she had taken an interest in while I took Hiccup. She was a bit nervous at the thought of having a Viking on her back but her determination to come was stronger so she ended up agreeing. I nodded satifised and gestured to a spot where she could rest for the night. I walked over to the shelter alone and laid next to the small bag of Hiccup's possessions before falling asleep waiting for the day of action to arrive.
