Hiccup's P.O.V
The chains that tucked on my wrists were so heavy they weighed my whole body down. My chest ached painfully and I could feel something sticky sticking in my hair. Everything around me was black, I was blind and everything was as silent as an owl. I couldn't even hear my breath or the metal of the chains weighing me down clanging together. It was like the world had frozen and it was whipped away from my vision, my hearing, my smell. Nothing was left. I was alone. Everyone was gone. Everything was gone.
Suddenly I caught a whiff of something very faint. I lifted my head up just enough so my hair moved out of my eyes. I sniffed again and the smell was stronger. I closed my eyes for a moment to register what it was. My rattled brain struggled to do what I wanted it to but the smell became strong and my eyes flicked back open. A thick, grey smoke had penetrated the darkness and was flooding in fast creating some sort of wall around me. Despite my dwindling energy I struggled against the chains as the smoke began to suffocate me and sting my eyes. I blinked a few times and began coughing.
"You shouldn't have left Hiccup," Alvin's voice echoed around me.
I head flicked side to side but Alvin was not to be seen.
"Where are you?" I called out.
"Tut Tut how could you have let this happen?" Alvin asked.
I froze still as the sight before me cleared and I could finally see what was causing the smoke. My home. Everything was on fire and there were hundreds of lumps that covered the ground. Suddenly my wrists were free from the chains and I was able to walk around.
I got up and walked around looking as my home was being destroyed in front of my eyes. I could feel the heat of the fire against my skin and the dry grass crunch under my boots. I walked up to one of the lumps and gently placed my hands on the lump's surface which was rough, dry and scaly. Reality finally hit me and I stumbled back. These weren't just any lumps...no they were dead dragon bodies that had littered the home they one knew and lived in. They were the dragons I had grown up with. They were my family.
Despite the growing guilt in my chest I continued to walk although my mind was elsewhere, my feet where determined to keep going. It was when I reached the edge of the highest land and only a few centimeters in front of my feet was something large, scaly and black. It was alive but wounds littered all over it's body. I dropped to my knees and buried my head into my hands and the tears just came. My chest ached painfully but I was too focused on the creature in front of me to notice it.
"W-why?" I sobbed bringing my head back up.
"Why do you trust these people Hiccup, they wouldn't and don't trust you, and now you see what happens after they have finished with you," Alvin explained in the shadows.
"What do you mean? you're no better than any Viking," I replied.
"Aye, that may be true but would I kill your only family you've known?" he questioned.
I was even more confused now but the figure in front of me pulled my attention to it. Coming through the shadows was what looked to be a person with something in his or her hand. They walked confidently out of the shadows that surrounded them and soon they stood behind the creature in front of me. Everything stopping inside of me. My eyes widened and my mouth hung open. The person in front of me had an axe gripped tightly in their grasp with fresh, bright red, blood slowly dripping off the sharp blade I was all too familiar with, their once clean clothes was stained red, their golden hair had been poisoned with the colour red and their face (like the rest of the person) had large splashes of blood and an evil smirk written atop their face.
"A-Astrid?" I asked.
She didn't reply but her once warm eyes that looked like they contained the ocean was now full of piercing ice. She kneeled down and placed a hand on the head of the dragon in front of me. I went to push her but a heavy weight help me down by my wrists once again. I pulled with all my might but the chains were reluctant to let go of each other. The devil himself appeared walked out of the shadows and stood next to Astrid and placed a hand on her shoulder. She continued to look at the dragon with so much hatred that she didn't even realize Alvin was next to her.
"You see boy, you can't trust anyone. You should have stayed with you dragons, not that it matters anymore," Alvin snickered.
"Kill them all, they don't deserve to live," Astrid mumbled under her breath still with the sickening grin. It was almost like Alvin's. She lifted her axe and then she brought it down...
"HICCUP!!!!" Astrid yelled.
My eyes flicked open like a switch. Toothless sat on my right and Astrid stood in front of me. I took a moment and studied her all over, she wasn't covered in blood, she didn't have an axe in her hand and her eyes were warm once again with that little ocean you could see bottled in her eyes if you looked close and long enough. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was hold and wrapped my arms around Astrid's neck which surprised her. She giggled like a girl I knew she wasn't and wrapped her comforting arms around me too. I pulled back slightly and sat up a bit taller and gave her just the lightest kiss on her forehead.
"I love you," I whispered in her ear.
She didn't reply but to be honest I didn't want her too. Despite my nightmare I knew my feeling's for Astrid were real and I trusted her with all my heart. Alvin isn't going to ever take that away from me because he can't. Toothless butted his head in between us and gave me a little scowl.
"Oh what's wrong you big, baby, boo?" I questioned teasingly.
Both Astrid and I laughed when Toothless rolled his eyes at me and groaned. Astrid extended her hand to Toothless.
"Come on," she said.
Toothless joined us so we could wrap an arm each around his neck.
I know Alvin isn't going to leave me alone in my sleep but he has no more power over me anymore. As long as I have these two in my life, I will always have hope.
Now it was Astrid who pulled always and stood up straight. She extended her hand to me now to help me up.
"Come on we need to get you back to Gothi," she explained.
"Fine," I replied rolling my eyes.
Astrid helped me up but before we left I patted Toothless' head.
"My promise still stands Toothless, I promise I wouldn't let anything happened to you, ever."
