Hiccup's P.O.V

Snotlout stood there with a sword in his hand. He smirked at me and then his face fell when he saw Toothless. I slowly got up and walked over to Toothless.

"I knew something was up!" he exclaimed.

I stood protectively over Toothless and he did the same. We both growled at Snotlout. He took and step closer which made me flinch.

"You're not welcomes here," he pointed out. "Why would you protect such horrid beasts?"

I clenched my hands into fists. My fear vanished.

"Dragons are not beasts! They are beautiful, amazing, gentle creatures that are only misunderstood!" I replied signaling Toothless with my hands to not attack.

"You disgust me," Snotlout said and with that he charged at me.

I pulled out my fire sword and jumped to the side, missing the tip of Snotlout's sword by a foot. He stopped running and turned to me. He tried again but yet I was too fast for him. I crouched down and thought of what to do.'

Snotlout stood up straighter.

"What are you doing? Afraid to attack me," he mocked.

I kept silent still thinking.

"Well while you're busy I guess I'll take care of the dragon," his voice was harsh. I snapped my head up and saw Toothless trapped in a bola.

"How'd that happen?!" I thought.

Snotlout smirked back at me and pointed the sword at Toothless. I once again remembered why Vikings scared me. My hand holding the sword began to shake so I gripped it harder. I slowly got up.

"Love is weakness, didn't you know that?" Snoutlout asked.

"Then why do you try to get Astrid to love you," I replied carefully.

"Because if you are to love something you have to know how to protect it and you," he explained. "Obviously you didn't know that."

My heart leapt as the tip of the sword touched Toothless' exposed underbelly.

"Why?" I asked.

"Because you're just like...them, your a beast," Snotlout replied.

"If you look deeper then their actions you'd see dragons aren't as bad as you think, just let me show you," I begged.

"I think I'll pass."

Without thinking I placed my fire sword in my right hand so my left was free. Snotlout raised his sword above Toothless who was looking at me sadly.

"I'll never let anyone hurt you, never!" I thought.

I jumped in front of Toothless and with one big swing I nocked the sword out of Snotlout's hand sending him backwards. I stood there for a moment as the fire died from my sword and then I dropped it. My arm felt as if someone was ripping my muscles. I kneeled in front of Toothless and quickly pulled a small knife out that I had placed in my armor and quickly cut through the ropes. Toothless jumped up and licked my face.

"I know bud I'm sorry," I said.

I stood up with Toothless and saw Snotlout pointing his sword at me. Toothless quietly growled but I started to scratch him under the chin which made him purr and he fell to the ground once I'd hit his sweat spot.

"Please don't hurt Toothless just do what ever you want to me," I begged.

"The dragon! I can't believe a Viking has thrown his lot in with them," he pointed to Toothless who laid harmlessly on the ground.

"Don't you ever call me a Viking! I've never been one, dragons have always been my only family and friends," I yelled at first but slowly got quieter.

"SNOTLOUT!!!!!!!!!!"

I turned my head and saw Astrid standing bellow the entrance, eyes wide and shocked. I saw her position meant she was scared and I could just see it in her eyes.

"Crap," Snotlout muttered under his breath. He lowered his sword.

"What are you doing?" she asked running towards me although she was asking Snotlout.

"Astrid he's sided with those beasts, he's a traitor to Vikings," Snotlout tried to explained.

I stiffen at the thought that he still thinks I was once a Viking.

"Snotlout, Hiccup isn't a Viking, he was raised by dragons  an-" I stopped realizing what I was saying.

Snotlout stared at me and I felt like he was trying to mentally kill me.

"He was raised by them?" Snotlout asked.

Astrid sighed and nodded.

I didn't know what to do so I returned to Toothless and we sat at the water's edge. I took off my armor and rolled my sleeve up. I cupped some water in my hand and poured it over my wound. I winced at the sudden added pain. Toothless roared quietly and licked my wound. His saliva would help it even if it didn't help much it was something. Astrid and Snotlout talked quietly hiding the conversation.

A hand touched my shoulder which made me stiffen.

"Is your arm hurting?" Astrid asked.

"No," I lied.

"You look much better suddenly," she pointed out.

"I feel much better, see I told you I can get better just like that," I snapped my fingers.

Astrid giggled.

"I'm glad that you didn't get hurt more," she said.

"I don't like him," I pointed out.

"I don't blame you, hardly anyone does and the only person who does is our chief Stoick the Vast, he treats him like a son," Astrid explained.

"What does that look like?" I asked interested.

"What do you mean?" Astrid looked at me confused.

"I mean what does it look when a Viking treats another Viking like a family?" I explained.

"Well-I-uh," Astrid looked shocked at the questioned.

I looked at her confused now.

"Well I guess in a way when Stoick looks at Snotlout, you can see there's some kind of glimmer in his eyes, like he's proud I guess? He treats him with all kindness I've seen him offer that wasn't for the village," she tried to explain to me.

"I guess it's different for dragons," I fiddled with my fingers. Astrid sat next to me.

"I-I'd like to know more about dragons...a-and you," she said.

I turned my head to look at her and in that sentence I felt my heart beat faster.
