Chapter 2: The Present

*17 years later, Yumi's PoV*

I was sitting at the main balcony of the Sakamaki mansion, reading my book. It was such a beautiful summer evening, as it was cool and nice so I decided to kick back, relax, and read.

"Excuse me, Yumi-san?" I heard Yui's voice as she entered the balcony.

"Hey there, Yui, what's up? And cut it out with calling me Yumi-san! You can call me Yumi! We are best friends here!" I stated.

 She smiled.

I'm the only one that doesn't drink Yui's blood. Why? Because my brothers are always coming after her, no matter where it is to drink her blood. Plus I can survive. On some occasions, if it comes to a point in which I really need blood, Reiji gives me these "blood tablets" which taste absolutely disgusting. But, I survive.

"Come here and sit with me, Yui!" I stated cheerfully.

Yui happily came and sat across from me.

"At least I have someone in this place that I can talk comfortably with. If I had talked to one of the others, it would just lead them to drink my blood." Yui said in a distant voice.

"I think that the major reason to why they are sadists is because of their rough childhood. Our father isn't really around all the time as you know, and their mothers usually watched over them. As for me, their mothers really did not care about me since I was not their daughter. So I was usually off the hook, and I wasn't bothered as much. But as for them, their childhood wasn't so great."  I stated.

Yui looked down.

"After hearing that, I actually feel bad for them." Yui said.

Heh, tell me about it... I have seen things go on around here, such as Laito having an affair with his own mother to only then kill her in the end.

"But do not let them take your blood all the time! They will end up killing you if they do. If I have to, I'll stop them." I stated confidently.

"What about you, Yumi? What happened to your mother?" I looked down. 

To be honest, I don't like when people bring up the subject of my mother. But since Yui is a close friend of mine, I decided to tell her.

"My mother left me when I was born. She never came to visit me or anything, so I really do not know how she looks like. However, my father told me that she loved me. He did not tell me the full story though, like the reason she left after I was born, stuff like that."

It then looked like Yui regretted asking me the question.

"I'm sorry, Yumi.. I didn't mean.."

I then interrupted her.

"No. It's nothing, really. I am used to just living with my brothers and it's been okay, considering how annoying they are." I said with a giggle.

Yui and I continued to gossip and chat until Ayato appeared at the balcony door.

"I've been looking everywhere for you, Chichinashi! So you've been here with Yumi the whole time. You know, I've been feeling, a little thirsty.." He said, coming closer to Yui.

I began to get annoyed. This is the fourth time tonight he comes to get blood from her!

"Oi, Ayato. Enough. You have drank enough today, and the others have not drank from her tonight." 

Ayato looked at me annoyed.

"No. This isn't enough. I'm very thirsty." He stated, not backing out.
