"Log date, 7-11-2." Oh great, Peridot's doing her 'logs' again. Apparently you all have to be quiet when she does them. It's been a few days since the whole robot destroy thing took place. You stood behind Pearl as she drew on the 'chalkboard' with 'chalk.' "I finished making the blueprints for the drill head!" Pearl announced, getting you excited. "Peridot, could you come and take a look at this?" Se asked politely. "Remind me again why I should listen to you? Oh right." She pressed a button in the recorder Steven gave her earlier. Her voice, now more annoying when distorted by the radio, played. "The Pearl here has exhibited an aptitude for engineering in which I begrudgingly respect. That still doesn't explain the spontaneous singing. Crying. Singing while crying." Pearl looked embarrassed and asked Steven; "Why did you give her that." Through gritted teeth. "Well, we did destroy all her stuff, I felt like it would make her feel a little better." Peridot started rewinding the tape and playing back a bunch if times she yelled "CLOD." Suddenly, Garnet walked up behind everyone, a piece of hay in her mouth. "Alright. I chased away those cows, let's get to work." "Before we begin, do you mind unfusing? It's making me incredibly uncomfortable." Peridot said. 'She is so done.' You thought. Garnet quickly said; "Come with me." Peridot followed her to a fence, where she almost in the blink of an eye, tied Peridot to the fence. You just laughed as Peridot questioned what she did wrong. "Did we really have to do that?" Steven peeped from behind you. "Her having free reign if the place made me incredibly uncomfortable." Was Garnet's only response. You went over to help Pearl with Steven and Amethyst. You got over to Pearl as Steven and Amethyst dropped some metal parts in front of her. "Here you go, Pearl!" Steven said cheerfully. "Oh, good. Hmm... Nonono no I said I needed tungsten, tung-sten?" She said, repeating 'tungsten' awkwardly. Awkwardness aside, you turned and saw a box labeled 'TUNGSTEN' on the other side of the field. You quickly ran towards it, grabbed a bunch of parts, and ran back. You dropped them in front of Pearl. "Well, thank you (G/n)! That was very helpful." "Yeah, I know!" You said, trying to be modest but failing horribly. Steven and Amethyst quickly got bored (and somewhat jealous of you~) and walked over to Peridot, who was still trying to grab something. Eventually, Pearl walked over there, apparently to get a 'magnetron.' You overheard the conversation, and she's thinking about going to Kindergarten after what happened last time? She's crazy! "She's not going to the Kindergarten without a chaperone!" After a few more minutes Of drilling bolts in, Garnet walked up to you. You stopped tightening and turned to her. "Go and make sure they don't cause any trouble." She gestured to behind her, where Steven, Amethyst, and Peridot were talking. "Ugh, fine." You groaned, walking over to them. Soon you were off and to the Kindergarten. You got there and found a drill head still attached to a smashed up injector drill. You four quick walked over and started work. Peridot started making her logs again, while Steven bashed the top of the drill head with a rock. You were trying to think of ways to break it off without destroying it. "You makin more nerd notes?" Amethyst teased. "What is 'nerd?'" Peridot asked, not familiar with the Earth term. If there is one thing you have learned, it's to not ask Amethyst what anything is. She chuckled quietly. "Can you use it in a sentence?" Peridot asked surprisingly polite. Amethyst cleared her throat and said "Nerd. You are a nerd." She then laughed hysterically. Steven jumped down. "Amethyst, cut that out." He said, trying to lighten the mood. You could care less what happened next, you were walking around the drill, looking for any weak spots, or exploits, or anything that will make this job easier. But you couldn't help overhear what the group said next. "Permafusion? Is that what you call Garnet?" "I could call her lots of things. I could call her 2 things. 2 clods! Walking around like she's one clod! Nyeh heheheheh!" Why does that laugh make you cringe so much? "What's wrong with that?" Asked Steven. "Well, she's not even fighting, she's just..." It's silent. This is when you looked over. Peridot was mashing her fists together. You knew exactly what that meant, and frankly you I thought it was quite rude. Amethyst thought it was funny, Steven was just terribly confused. Maybe he'll learn one day, when he's older. You actually hoped he didn't. "You're a real gem, Peri!" Amethyst said through laughter. Hey, that's your nickname for her! Whatever, you didn't care. "Yes, I am. A gem." Peridot replied nervously. "Okay okay, do Steven next. What's weird about Steven?" Okay, you think you can see where this is going now. "Where do I even begin? He's some sort of hybrid abomination, I don't even know how he functions! His organic half consumes so much energy that he has to constantly feed, and he spends so much time expelling, he has an entire room dedicated to it!" Peridot ranted. Does she even know what was sacrificed to bring Steven into the world? Guaranteed if she had known Rose, she would not be belittling Steven's existence. You observed Peridot for a second. She I staring at Amethyst, who is laughing. She thinks THIS is how you be funny, how you get attention. Just when you thought she had learned from her mistakes. "Uh, no, something else! Let's talk about something else!" Everyone turned to you. Oh dear. "Where do I even start with you?" Peridot smiled and pointed at you. "They're a kind of defective, but not at the same time! They're kind are supposed to be killers, and destroy everything that stands in they're way! But this one doesn't. This one ran away from all the fighting. That's probably all they're good for! Must be why they were granted super speed! So they could run away and be a COWARD!" You wanted it to stop. Tears brimmed in your eyes. "Peri, I think that's Too Far..." Amethyst said, quickly glancing at you before looking away immediately. You were going to show them. You're going to show them all you aren't defective. Sadness was quickly replaced with anger as you summoned your weapon, and made it huge. You swung/fired, slicing/breaking/shooting a large arrow of light (at) the drill, causing the head to quickly fall off. It crashed to the ground, it's rim sizzling where it used to hang. You then ran, because apparently that's all you're good for according to a certain someone. You ran and looked for your hole. You wanted nothing more than to hide your face from everyone. "(G/n) wait!" You heard Steven say, but you didn't care. Anger was overrun by sadness again, and you found your hole. You slipped in, going all the way to the back. You sat down, dragging your knees to your chest and started crying. 'She's right.' You thought. Your self esteem was being eaten away by your memories of the past few moments. 'I am just a defect. A failure. A coward.' Then one spontaneous thought broke out among the others. 'I should have never left the cave I was stuck in.' You cried silently in your hole for a few minutes before you heard a voice. "(G/n)?" It's Steven. You somehow sunk deeper into your hole than you already were "(G/n)!" You heard Amethyst say. You really hoped they didn't find you. You just want to be alone right now. They walked past your hole, not seeing you at first, but then Amethyst turns around as spots you. You can't run, she's blocking your way. "(G/n), what are you doing in there?" Amethyst said, kind of softly, but worried. "What. does. it. look. like." You said with pained nonexistent vocal cords. "Peridot's wrong, you aren't defective! You're the greatest gem here! Your speed is your strength!" Steven butted in. "Don't distance yourself, let us help you!" Amethyst said. Fine. You can't run away forever. Amethyst brought you out of your hole, and you all walked back to the drill. You warped back to the house, and in no time you were back at the barn, dragging the drill behind you. "Oh, it's lovely! To think we're using the same technology that started this all to end it, this drill is pure irony!" Pearl ranted. Amethyst chuckled. "Actually, it's mostly carbonate." Said Peridot. "Would that make it carbony?" Steven punned. You were walking with a bunch of mechanical parts for the control panel Pearl needed to build. Your only obstacle between you and Pearl was Peridot. You didn't even want to go near her after Kindergarten. 'Stop thinking about it' you told yourself. You walked past Steven and Peridot, hoping they wouldn't say anything. But your hopes went in vain as Peridot tried to make up. "Oh, oh! (G/n)!" You turned to face her. Check out this.... Rhythmatic Pulverizer!" She said, picking up a hammer. You showed no reaction as she started laughing on the ground hysterically, praising herself for her self proclaimed comedy. You didn't react and moved on. "That was the inappropriate response..." You heard her say behind you. You could care less as you moved to Pearl, handing her the parts she requested. "(G/n)? Is something wrong? You're acting strange." Pearl asked. "I'm. Fine." You responded though inside you were on a roller coaster of emotions. Your fingers on your hands sharpened again, you had to hide them behind your back so no one would find out about your problem. You turned to see Peridot waving at you, like nothing was wrong. You flashed your evil eyes at her for a second, not caring that Steven was watching. She stopped waving. She actually looked terrified. Hopefully she doesn't say anything to the gems, for sure they'll bubble you. You walked into the barn to go calm down. After a few minutes, you felt your fingers go dull. You lied down on a hay bale and heard Peridot having a cow. She should be mad. She should also be happy you didn't reinstate your original function. Pearl sighed. "Another one of her temper tantrums. I'm surprised you four made it back from Kindergarten without driving each other crazy." Pearl said. You gave no response. If only she knew... You sat in the barn for a few hours while Peridot assembled the drill. Pearl called you for something, so you quickly ran out of the barn, and got over to her in a second. "Do you think you could get the 5x3 metal plate from over by the drill?" "Sure thing." You ran over, picked it up, and ran back, not even bothering to look at Peridot. You handed the part to Pearl, and heard a loud, whirring noise coming from the drill. It's activated. It spun around like a top, carrying Steven with it!" You, with your speed, were able to dodge the drill. But Amethyst with her tiny legs couldn't. The drill was right about to converge on her small form before Peridot jumped out of nowhere, pushing her out of the way right as the drill deactivated. "Heh hay! Don't worry it was just a drill!" Steven tried to say through his delirium from all the spinning. The dust cleared and Amethyst was in the ground with wide eyes at Peridot, who was sitting on too of her. 'I'd ship it.' You silently thought as Peridot jumped up and apologize for no reason. It was a weird moment, until Bird-- I mean Pearl got back. "We leave for one second and everything goes off the rails!" She screeches. "I blame the cows." Garnet said. You slow clapped. That's the type of humor you preferred. Garnet smiled. You turned and ran back to the others, watching Amethyst pull out a wheel on a stick (unicycle.) and she walked off, not a worry in the world. You, on the other hand, stood staring off into the sunset. You wondered what Lapis was doing. All alone in the house. Probably having alone time, she seemed to be very distant. Which you can respect. Speaking of distant, you hadn't said anything for a whole 4 hours. You heard Peridot walking up behind you. "Hello Peridot. What do you need?" Your voice sort of raspy. "I've come to... Uh...meh..." "Apologize?" "Agh! Why are you Earth ones so difficult!" She pressed a button on her recorder, playing back a message. "Log date: 7-11-2. This entire planet is backwards. There hasn't been one instance of correct behavior exhibited by any one of these 'Crystal Gems.' I have concluded they are all defective." Okay, that triggered you a little bit. But you played it off and kept listening; "...But I am no better. I failed my mission and now I'm working with the enemy. And I can't even get that right. I have apparently 'hurt' (G/n)'s 'feelings.' Which was not my intention. If I've damaged my standing with the best gem here, than I've made a serious mistake. I'm still learning. I hope you understand. I want to understand. I'm sorry. Peridot, Facet 5, end log." You turned to her, the gears of joy turning again. "As you can see, I--" "Oh Peridot!" Steven cut her off. With the mentality that she is still learning, you think you can forgive her now. "Peridot?" She turned to you. "Apology accepted." She gave you a smile. You turned and ran off. "How do you feel?" Steven said. "Big." Peridot replied.
