Chapter 1: Before

There you were. Forced to play that same tune. Over, and over again in the hopes that someone would find you, your attempts currently going in vain. It didn't always used to be like this. You used to be free, free to walk around, free to make friends, free to speak.

(Flashback)

"(G/n)!" "Yes Rose?" "I have something to tell you." Rose said in a slightly... Depressed tone. You couldn't quite put your finger on it. You were on earth, sent as one of your diamonds guards when the Rebels attacked your squadron. You were separated from your group, and your ship destroyed. You couldn't go back, your diamond would have shattered you as a result of  your failure. But Rose saw something else in you, so she let you stay with her team, the "Crystal Gems." Rose motioned you to follow her and you walked to the warp pad and across a place that would soon become a battlefield. "(G/n)." Rose stopped. "What's going on? Why are we here?" You said. "I'm going to stay and fight for this planet. You don't have to do this with me." You had no idea what to say. Rebelling against your diamond? That would basically mean certain death if you lost. That is, if you were still alive to see the day. Well, you were already kind of rebelling by being in the very presence of Rose Quartz. "Understand that if we lose, we'll be killed. And if we win, we can never go back to Homeworld." You had to ponder these words. Was she asking you to join an alliance? How many gems had she persuaded already? You already knew about her renegade Pearl. You soon realized that no matter which side you picked, you'd probably be shattered anyways. Rose's side would most likely mean you'd get captured or shattered, or even worse. Well, there is nothing worse than being shattered. If you joined Homeworld, you'd betray the ones whom you have become friends with. You eventually decided to join Rose, as your only friends were on her side. "I will stand and fight alongside you." You said in a monotone voice. Then something unexpected happened. You felt two arms wrapping around your back in a hug. "Thank you." Rose said, her curly pink locks in your face. A (f/c) blush came across your face.

(Back to the present)
That was so many years ago. That was before desperate times came.

(Flashback)
You trained with Rose long enough. The time is now. This was the final battle. You stood alongside a fusion, whom had been known as "Garnet" and an Apatite. You pulled out your weapon and stood in your battle stance. You remembered your training and adjusted your feet so you had a strong center of gravity. You looked around one last time as the before the battle began. You saw some friends, some strangers, and some enemies. Among them was a Jasper on Homeworld's side. You hoped you did not have to face her. You hoped you didn't have to face anybody, though you knew that was never happening. A horn sounded as Rose yelled "Charge!" As did Homeworld's leader. Using your abnormal speed, thanks to underwater training, combined with your already unnatural speed, you are a blur on the battle field. You sought out your first target, a Red Agate. Luckily for you, you got the drop on her and you were able to perform a sneak attack. You (stabbed, shot, whacked) her as she was distracted with... A shattered gem. It was an Onyx. Your best friend. You had known him/her since the very beginning. You were basically siblings to each other. You felt a certain feeling you had not felt in a long time. Genuine anger. You immediately turned, an Angelite about to hit you with her staff. You swiftly dodged, clearly faster and you roundhouse kicked her chest, causing her staff, along with herself, to fall to the ground. You raised your weapon coming in for a final strike. But you hesitated, noticing the look of fear and terror on her face. This moment of hesitation would be your last, as you were struck from behind by none other than the Jasper you saw at the start of the battle. You let out a cry of agony as you fell to the ground on your knees, back searing with pain. Too weak to stand, you just sat there waiting for the inevitable. You turned your head when you heard a big "CLANG" ring out. It was none other that Rose herself, she blocked the Jasper's attack with her shield. "Go!" She said and you immediately followed her orders, and took off towards your next target. The Angelite from earlier was nowhere to be found. You ran until you saw Rose's Pearl, laying on the ground, helpless, about to be shattered by an Aventurine. Rose had saved your life, now it was time to save someone else's. You quickly went into action, stabbing/shooting/whacking her with your weapon. She immediately poofed, causing the Pearl to look at you and give a nod of respect before returning to battle. You turned to see a Blue Agate fighting the fusion known as Garnet. Garnet made quick work of the Agate and poofed and shattered her gem. You looked away while she shattered it. You then turned, seeing a very colorful gem you had come to know as Bismuth, with a wicked smile across her face, as she poofed a Lapis Lazuli trying to escape. It was sad, seeing how war changed people. When you first joined the Crystal Gems, Bismuth was the first one to show you hospitality. Now look at her. Poofing gems left and right, no sign of regret at all. She even looked like she was having fun. You suddenly felt something inside you. Something that some would describe as regret or guilt. You shook it off and kept fighting. You then saw your friend Apatite being poofed, her spherical green gem falling to the ground. The feeling in your nonexistent gut got worse. Again, you shook it off and kept fighting. You poofed 3 more gems, shattering the last one by accident. As you stared at the shards, that feeling was back. You stood, motionless on the battle field, in a state some would describe as a mental breakdown. You had just shattered someone. Sure, someone who would have killed you, but still someone with a life. You slowly felt that feeling crawl up your body. Before you knew it you were on the ground, knocked over by somebody. Somebody big. Jasper. She had visible injuries all over her body, but none too bad. She was a Quartz, after all. She picked you up by the collar of your shirt/dress, and proceeded to beat your gem, over and over again. You eventually heard and felt a noise. It was after this noise that the Jasper dropped you, with a look of smugness written on her face. You felt your gem, a huge crack going up the middle. You had to find Rose before it was too late. You limped/ran across the battle field, surprisingly nobody paid any attention to you. You looked and looked, Rose nowhere to be found. Your gem cracked more and your fear grew. You tried to run, only to fall down again. Suddenly, an explosion was heard. Homeworld was using explosives. The explosions got louder and louder until one happened right next to you, sending you flying across the battle field. You landed on the hard ground. Your gem almost shattered, your vision grew faint, as darkness surrounded you.
