Chapter 4: The Return (My way)

At the house

Steven was so happy to have you here. New gems meant new friends! He looked overjoyed to have someone else in the house besides the other Crystal gems. "Welcome (G/n), to the Temple! Mi casa es tu casa." You looked at him kind of confused, not knowing what the diamond he just said, but you played it off with a "Cool!" The other gems sat on the couch as the Quartz Child went up and stared at some kind of glowing box device spewing the noises of crying and wailing condiments. 'Is that what small humans like? Weird.' You thought. Neglecting to sit down, you wanted answers. You stood in front of the gems on the couch, arms crossed. "Okay, what's going on? What happened to Rose?" Pearl and Amethyst's expressions darkened as Garnets remained still. "Uh..." Pearl started, obviously at a loss for words. "She gave up her physical form to create Steven." Garnet finished. "Wait, so Steven is Rose?" You didn't understand. Did they mean that this was Rose's new form? Like she regenerated? "What do you mean?" You asked the gems, a look of worry on your face.

(Time skip to when they explain it to you, I don't want to spend too long on this part)

"W-what?" You asked, something in your mind snapped. 'Rose is... Gone, but not gone?' You thought. "She is a part of Steven now." Pearl said, eyes a little teary. "I... I think I understand now." You said. "Give me a moment." You walked outside and sat down on the sand to watch the sunset. Rose had given you everything when you had... Nothing. She taught you that you had a purpose besides serving somebody. She gave you a second chance at life. You looked up at the sky, and your nonexistent heart dropped into your nonexistent stomach. There. Was. A. Giant. Green. Hand. In. The. Sky. And it was pointing right at you. Using your abnormal speed (something you were proud to have) you ran into the house. "GUYSGUYSGUYSGUYS" you yelled. "What is it (G/n)? What's wrong?" Pearl asked with a worried expression. "What is that?!" You pointed out the window of the beach house. "What's what?" Pearl asked as each of the gems walked to the window and stared at it before they all freaked out, excluding you and Garnet. "What do we do?" "What is that thing?" "WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" Amethyst yelled running around in circles. "Stop!" Garnet said as everyone stopped, you flinching a little at her tone. "We need to come up with a plan. (G/n), do you remember how to summon your weapon?" "But of course." Your gem glowed and you pulled out a (fav color) (weapon). "Alright, You're with us." "Pearl and Amethyst, you're also with me and (G/n)." Garnet said, a stern look on her face. You nudged Garnet's leg (or side, if you're taller.) She looked (down) at you. "What about Steven?" You whispered. "Don't worry, I'll take care of him. Go with Amethyst and get clothes and food, along with the cheeseburger backpack." "What's a cheeseburger?" You asked. "Amethyst knows where it is. Ask her." You walked into the 'kitchen' and got food out of the big white container Steven calls 'the fridge.' Soon you were all on the beach and sending Steven on his way. He seemed sad to go, he really wanted to stand with you. But Garnet said it was too dangerous, which is understandable. You were facing the unknown. The gems in that ship could have advanced weaponry to overpower you. You said goodbye to Steven as a green tint filled the area.

(Small time skip)
The ship was landing. You had been briefed on what happened over the last few minutes, so you were up to speed. You stood in line with the gems, to the right of Amethyst. A green light shining around the beach. You summoned your weapon, ready for battle. Just as it was ages ago. You thought back to the battle, the one where you almost died. You snapped out of your imagination as Garnet suggested Pearl and Amethyst fuse, and possibly shoot the ship down with arrows. It didn't work, the ship absorbed the attack like it was nothing. You were really scared now. 'At least Steven is safe.' You thought. You had sent him with his father to evacuate everyone in Beach City while you four took care of whatever this was. Coincidentally, Garnet immediately said "At least Steven is safe" 'Did she just read my mind' you questioned. "Hey guys!" You heard a cheery voice yell. You turned in shock, to find that Steven was there atop his Lion. "Steven!" You all yelled at once. Opal freaked out and unfused. "You came back!" Amethyst said, a kind if sad but joyful tone. "What are you doing? Get out of here!" Pearl yelled as Garnet said "Too late, just stay behind us!" You all readied your weapons, and got in battle stance. Fear ate at your mind, imagining all of the things that could come out of that ship. The ship landed, throwing sand everywhere. For a split second, you thought you could see it flipping the bird. You shielded your eyes as well as Steven's. As the dust cleared you saw some type of orb rolling across the ship. You would love to know how it works later. As soon as the orb reached the fingertip, the finger lowered with a loud bang. The orb unraveled revealing three figures. You recognized a Peridot, a Lapis Lazuli, and... Oh no. Not her. Jasper. The same Jasper that cracked your gem during the war. You identified the threat levels of all 3 people on that ship. Jasper is probably the major threat, the Peridot appears to be a minor threat, and the Lapis just looked like she doesn't want to be here. "That's them alright. They're the ones breaking my machines." The Peridot said, a hint of anger to her voice. "This is it?" The Jasper said. You felt her gaze reach you and her eyes widened before they fell again. "Jasper, they keep interfering with my work!" The Peridot said again, more anger in her voice. The Jasper sighed as she stepped foreword. "Looks like another waste of my time. Hey, get over here!" The Jasper said, yanking the Lapis up with her. Lapis grunted and ripped her arm from Jasper's grip as she noticed Steven. She gasped and muttered something. You heard Steven whisper "Lapis." behind you. "This is their base?" She asked the blue gem, a feeling of dread across her face. "Yes." She said, looking away from everyone. "You need to leave immediately!" Garnet said. "Yeah, step off!" Amethyst said. "This is not a gem controlled planet!" Pearl said. They all had angry expressions. You thought about saying something, but you had nothing to say. You weren't one for pointless banter. So you stayed quiet, earning a glance from Pearl. You hoped they just left, you didn't want your first major experience since you you trapped yourself to be a fight. Well, that's not happening. The three Homeworld gems stepped off the ship and onto the sand. The Jasper landing with a 'Thud.' "Neither of you saw Rose Quartz?" Jasper asked the other two gems. They shook their heads. "What a shame. I had hoped to meet her. I was looking forward to beating her into the ground!" Everyone cringed at those words, but not you. You kept a stern expression, not letting her get to you. "But this is all that's left of her army? Some lost defective Pearl?" Pearl cringed. "A puny, overcooked runt?" Amethyst's expression got more severe. "And this shameless display?" You looked over at Garnet's reaction. She stayed still. "And you?" Jasper pointed in your direction. You flinched. "I thought I shattered you long ago." "Think again." You said, calmly, though internally you were ready to beat her into the ground. "What is that?" Jasper said, disgusted. She was referring to Steven. Everyone moved to form a barrier around Steven, which you found a little ironic, considering he is the one with shield powers. You weren't about to put a child on the front lines though. "He's just a human! He isn't a threat at all! H-he's not one of them!" The Lapis yelled, worry written across her sky blue face, tinted green because of the light reflecting off of the ship. You could tell that if you survived this, the Lapis could become an ally. That is, if you aren't shattered first. "I know what a human is. You don't need me for this, just... blast them with the ship." "Ugh, fine." The Peridot said, annoyed. 'What a great team.' You could see her trace something on her finger pad, as the hand ship turned to form a blaster, charging up an attack. 'Okay, what, we're just gonna stand here?' you thought. You formed a plan. You were gonna run the second that ship fires, sure, everyone else would die, but... Wait, why are you thinking about this? Why would you ever think of leaving them behind? No, you were going to push them out of the way. You might die, sure, but your speed could be enough to push everyone away. You didn't get the chance to do either, Steven ran in front of everyone yelling, "I'm a Crystal Gem too!" You immediately dashed out of the way, you weren't going to die there. Kind if selfish on your part, but what else were you going to do? A loud "TANG!" was heard as you, Jasper, and the others turned in shock and saw that Steven had blocked the attack with his shield. He lowered his shield and fell to the ground, exhausted from making a shield that big. "You! You have the power of Rose Quartz! Fire a barrage, Widespread!" The Jasper yelled as The Peridot swiped on her finger pad in a panic and the ship fired a messy, uneven line at the sand causing an explosion, knocking Steven to the ground. Luckily, you dodged the laser just in time, but you were still separated from the rest of the team. Suddenly, Garnet rose from the sand in an attempt to attack Jasper, to which she responded with forming a crash helmet and blocking Garnet's punch, the recoil sending Both backwards. You ran to Steven, to make sure he was okay. You then saw Jasper pull out something that resembled a trident with electricity dancing around it. You then immediately dashed over to Jasper, weapon deployed, ready to shatter that pretty little gem on her face. She swiped at you with her weapon, missing. You then dashed to her side, cutting/hitting/shooting her arm. She growled in pain, a visible cut/bruise/hole where you attacked. She swung at you again with her trident-like thing. You tried to dodge, but she grabbed your arm and connected her weapon with your chest (or gem if your gem is there.) Pain filled your entire body. Worse than when your gem was almost shattered. You couldn't focus on anything, just the horrible, agonizing pain that was coursing through you body. You felt your physical form collapsing, your limbs falling off, your head splitting in half, you leaned back to look at Steven's petrified face as everything went black. Your form exploded with a loud "BAMF!" A smoking (color) (gem type) where you once stood.

Steven P.O.V.

They just poofed (G/n). Are they gonna do that to me next? What will happen? Will I survive? Jasper walked up to me and picked me up by the collar...(You know what she says from here blah blah blah)... "You have failed!" She said and then everything went black.

Pearl's POV

My baby! No! She hurt my baby! He's not moving! Is he dead?! Oh please, for the love of Rose, tell me he isn't...

Garnet's POV
(G/n) is gone. Steven is incapacitated. It's not fair. (G/n) just got out of their gem, only to be poofed again. I can hear Ruby and Sapphire arguing. "We can't just stand here!" "If we fight, we'll be separated." "STEVEN IS HURT, WE HAVE TO FIGHT!" My anger got the better of me, something I would soon regret as I came undone.

Third person POV
And so, Ruby, in a fit of anger, ran at Jasper, gauntlet at the ready. She was poofed by Jasper, fortunately without the gem destabilizer. Sapphire surrendered willingly, as well as Amethyst and Pearl. Lapis picked up the fallen's gemstones, dropping yours in shock as it was burning hot.
