"Good morning brats." Levi gruffs as he enters with his daily cup of strong coffee. He loosens his tie restlessly as he sits down at the professor's desk.
"Good morning." The class choruses and he begins to teach his lesson.
The truth was that you had developed eyes on your own professor. As embarrassing as it sounds, he was amazingly good-looking for a thirty year old. You knew the age difference was great, but you couldn't help that all those thoughts dissembled away every time he entered the classroom.
I can't like him, besides even if he did somehow return my feelings, he won't be able to do anything about it. He's my teacher.
You sigh unconsciously as you look out the window. The birds were chirping outside and the sun felt warm against your skin.
At that moment you feel something being thrown at you and swirl around to see a group of girls giggling. You look down to see a paper ball that was thrown. You swiftly bend down and unravel it to read the stinging words:
"Nerd"
You shake your head silently as the words begin to blur. This went on everyday and no-one would know how much these words struck you.
By the time you realise, the class was over and you had done none of the work that was assigned.
Levi makes his rounds as he collected the papers swiftly. He pauses in front of your desk and eyes your blank sheet of paper as he takes it up. He examines your blank gaze and how your fingers trembled along the crumpled paper and immediately understood the situation.
"(Your Name). See my after class."
The girls throw a fit behind you as they almost die laughing. They instantly shut up when Levi glared at them with his cold grey gaze.
After class you make your way to his office and knock. You really didn't know what to tell him. You knew he could see straight through your lies and excuses.
"Come in." His voice resonates.
Levi glanced up from his papers to see you standing nervously tugging at the helm of your skirt.
"Sensei...I-" You begin and he holds up a hand to halt your words.
"I know what those girls have been doing to you. Why don't you stand up for yourself. I thought you were a bright student." He says bluntly.
"I-"You stammer and look down, the tears dribbling down your cheeks. "I don't say anything because I'm not like you Levi-san. It's just my nature."
Levi sighs as he gets up from his chair. He walks in front of you and lifts his hand to wipe your tears away with his thumb. His skin felt gentle and cool under your hot cheeks. Levi seemed to look at you like you were the most beautiful thing in the world, until he realised what he was doing.
He pulled his hand back sharply and let out a nervous cough.
"I'll see what I can do for you, and while I solve this, I want you to finish the assignment from today as homework. I expect it back first thing in the morning."
You gained an A for that assignment, and the girls were also expelled the very next day.

-A few years later-
Dear Friends and Family,
I am honored to have been selected as valedictorian for this year's graduating class. I would like to thank one particular teacher that helped me exceed my self-worth and climb to success. Mr. Ackerman. I found out that life isn't going to be easy, and if I want something, I'm going to have to stand up for myself and work hard to get it. Thank you everyone for everything you've done for us.
"Thank you."
You lock eyes with the short man below, who had his arms crossed with a soft smile.
He nods and you slightly and you smile back as your heart thumps.
Maybe someday.
