help?

so recently I went on the AP exam website to see what kinds of exams they offered. all I knew beforehand were the ones my school offered—chemistry, english, calculus and physics.

I saw that there was an arts section and was immediately interested. from what I read, I learned that there's a studio 2d art one where you send in a portfolio at the end of the year instead of a test.

I told my art teacher and mom about this because if I took this and scored a 4 or 5, I could easily get art scholarships since I want to major in art education.

they told me to go to my counseling office and ask if I could take this exam as a sophomore or junior so yeet.

obviously I'm going to take the other exams my school gives us on campus, but this one is something that I may or may not be able to do.

so, my question is, do you have to be a junior or senior to take the AP exams? anyone who has taken an AP course or exam, can you help me out?
