I always seemed like one person who had too many life goals and right now the one that topped my list was getting through English. We had been discussing one of Shakespeare's works, Romeo and Julliet and I had been trying hard not to zone of. I actually needed to pay attention in English if I wanted to pursue my career choice - it actually involved a lot of literature - but my hooded eyes and frequent yawning clearly signified my tiredness. After the nightmare I'd had the previous day, I'd called Amell. Telling him about my nightmare was the hardest part - in which I had tried to maneuver my way out of and luckily succeeded - and I immediately wished I hadn't called him but it was already to late to cry over spilt milk.
.........
"You had a nightmare -?," Amell questioned on the other side of the line, I noticed a hint of amusement in his tone. The loud booming music on the other side and the sound of partying teenagers indicated that he wasn't alone. I heard the ear piercing breaking of glass followed by a loud scream.
"Are you at a party?" I don't know why but I desperately wanted to divert the attention from me. "Yeah," he answered coolly
"Oh"
"What was it about?" I flinch. I gulp a huge amount of air before answering him back."Nothing actually, I just called to say goodnight - that's all ,"I stammer and feign indifference. I hope he's drunk or something because I wouldn't want him interrogating me the next day. My hope was instantly shattered the moment I recalled Amell telling me that he doesn't drink. He did sound sober.
Amell chuckled on the other side of the line before muttering a small goodnight, probably too intoxicated by the heat of the moment to listen to my whiny rant let alone feign any interest. I disconnected the call to prevent me from saying anything else or any slip ups.
..........
I briefly glanced at the far right corner where Amell was seated, he was wearing a leather jacket - speaking of leather jackets I had one of his a few weeks ago, I actually didn't know where it was.
His eyes momentarily shifted from the board to find mine staring at him. I tried to will myself to tear my gaze away but it was useless, his azure orbs seared into mine. I'd been trying to avoid Amell for the better part of the day and it was the last lesson on Monday, happy that my mission had succeeded as I hadn't set eyes on him for the past hours, only to instantly came down from my height of excitement when I found him in my English class. Mr Fredward's voice kept reverberating through me ,the annoying deep voice with a hint of English onto it bouncing of the walls. Finally to my utter appeal the bell rang. The teenagers rocketed from their seats and swung bags over their shoulders clearly fed up with everything that had occurred that day.
"Tracy and Amell -," Mr Fredward began and my eyes widened to extremes. Had he caught me staring? I sure hadn't thought about justifying my lack of concentration during the lesson. I momentarily rubbed my already sweaty palms over the thick fabric material of my baggy jeans before cocking my head towards his direction. An equal astonished look was plastered on Amell's visage and saying he looked surprised would be a mild statement.
Placing his books and folders back onto his desk, Amell briskly walked to Mr Fredward's desk and unceremoniously took a seat in front of him. I mirrored his actions and the frantic clearing of the throat was followed by the least of things I'd expected to be the reason as to why we'd been summoned.
"As you both know -," the middle aged man began. His hands were interlocked and were in front of him on his desk, clearly expressing how serious and academic - based this was. " - you two are one of the best students in terms of the English language and everything seemingly evolving around it at large ,in practically the whole school-,"he paused momentarily as if letting us sink in what he'd just said before he retorted once again,"- so, there's something I need you two to do for me. As we all know, the United States Of America and the whole world is trying to fight against violations of human rights." Honestly speaking, I had no idea whatsoever as to where this was going. "And Chicago State, has decided to involve minors in the whole thing, the principle was at a board meeting the other day to discuss about how they were going to make this involving - minors thing a reality without causing any predicaments and the board decided to do it through writing ," he finished as he stared at us through the thick rim of his round ancient glasses.
