* This imagine was requested by mookahlatte Thank you for sending it in and in your request, you wanted a part from the end of the movie. If you really want it, I can add a part two with that scene? It kinda got out of hand and it's really long so I hope this makes up for how long it took me to update. Thank you! *
Third person POV
Newt gawked at the kids around the room whom he had never seen or met before, yet he knew all of them were just like him. The kids were all dressed in clean clothes of a neutral color just like Newt was given and had their freshly showered hair styled in whatever way they chose. The kids were around Newt's age, none of them being older than 18 or younger than 13. The main similarity between them was why they were there; they were all saved from a maze.
Newt's head snapped to the left once he heard the calling of his name. Frypan gestured him over where some of his other friends were already sitting at a table. Taking a seat beside Frypan, Newt noticed the two boys in front of him that he had never seen before.
"I'm Sam," the larger of the two boys said before gesturing to the other with his thumb, "and this is Josh." Newt listened to the boy continue his story about how they had escaped their maze when two people took a seat on either side of him. Thomas sat to his right, looking pale and uneasy, and Minho sat on his left with his eyebrow raised at the two boys in front, already not trusting them.
"There was this big explosion, and then these guys came out of nowhere. Started shooting up the place," Sam began. "They pulled us out of the maze and brought us here."
"It was intense," Josh added, taking of sip from his cup. Sam nodded to agree.
"What about the rest?" Newt asked. "The other people left behind in the maze, what happened to them?" Newt was glad they were safe, but he still felt uneasy at the thought of what happened to the friends they left behind when they went into their maze. Newt shivered at the thought of Wicked guards entering the glade just like they had done to Sam and Josh's maze.
"I don't know. Guess Wicked still has them." Josh looked down at his plate with regret etched on his face. Guilt was eating at the two new boys just like it was for the gladers.
"How long you guys been here?" Newt asked before pushing his tongue out of his mouth to moisten his chapped lips.
"Not long, just a day or two. Those two over there," Sam spun his head around to glance at the boy and girl sitting alone at the far table, "-been here the longest. Almost a week. They're twins and came here with a couple other girls." Sam drew all the attention off him and onto the pair in the corner of the room. The boy had his chin resting on his arms that were propped up on the table, and his sister was picking at the food on her plate.
"Their maze was nothing but girls," Josh added with a smirk. Minho turned his eyes on Josh, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Really?" he asked in disbelief. The boys exchanged a few more words but Newt was focused on one thing and one thing only: the beautiful girl sitting beside her brother.
Newt had never seen a teenage girl before today, or at least recalled seeing one, but he knew she was the most beautiful one his eyes had ever laid on. Her (Y/H/C) was curled around her face as a curtain so nobody could see her face full on, but he could see her beauty regardless. Newt wanted to know more about her- he wanted to know everything about her, and he got his chance.
The boy whispered something to the girl before rising from his seat and walking closer towards where the others had grabbed their food. Newt saw this as a perfect opportunity to talk to her.
Newt got up from his seat without mentioning to any of his friends where he was going and made his way over to the girl. When she noticed him approaching, her face lit up and a bright smile filled her face. Newt couldn't help but smile back at her infectious smile and took a seat directly across from her.
Newt was then at a loss for words. He wanted to come over and talk to her, but now that he was in front of her, his mind just couldn't seem to make words. "Umm, hi," Newt eventually said.
"Hi," the girl replied. "I'm (Y/N)."
"I'm Newt." Relief filled his entire body when he found out two things: one, what her name was, and two, that he had ability to speak again. Only he wasn't sure what to say now.
"I haven't seen you before. Are you new?" (Y/N) asked. Newt was thankful she started up a conversation before he had a chance to make a fool of himself.
"Yeah, we got here this morning, or last night, or whenever we got here. They just had us all shower before we came here," Newt explained.
(Y/N) nodded and tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear. "They did that to Aris and I when we got here."
The day (Y/N) and her twin Aris arrived was unlike what happened with Newt and his friends. When (Y/N) and Aris escaped their maze, they were shoved onto a bus with other people that Wicked was taking to the compound they were at right now. Halfway during the trip unfortunately, the bus stopped and some of her friends were too antsy and skeptical of the guards to stay. A large portion of the girls, including her two best friends Sonya and Harriet, escaped out of the bus and off into the harsh dessert. (Y/N) wanted to go after them, but Aris wouldn't let her. Guilt and regret was eating away at her every time she thought about the friends she left behind.
When they did arrive at the compound, (Y/N) and Aris were taken away from the other girls who did stay with them on the bus. They were given their own room with only two beds instead of the typical six to ten bunk beds, so they wouldn't get to stay with their friends. It got worse when each of her remaining friends name's were called the days following, leaving her and Aris the only two remaining kids from Group B.
Newt and (Y/N) continued to talk for a while, each of them sharing stories of their escape and their daily lives in their mazes. The two of them were growing quite fond of each other in the little time they had met. Newt wondered if maybe what he was feeling towards her was a developing crush, but he thought it was too early to tell.
"Good evening gentlemen, ladies," Janson announced as he entered the room with three men following closely behind. Newt tensed at the sudden voice, unaware of what was happening. (Y/N) gently set her hand over his, making him turn to her.
"It's alright. They do this everyday," (Y/N) said.
"Do what?" Newt asked with a strangled voice. It felt so good for him to have her hand over his.
"They call some kids names and take them somewhere. Nobody knows where they go, but Janson says it's a 'safe haven'. Aris doesn't believe them though. He thinks nobody ever leaves this place," (Y/N) explained, looking down at their hands so she wouldn't have to look him in the eye. "I think you should be careful, Newt. Something isn't right here." She slid her hand out from under Newt's and set it gently in her lap while she stared at it.
"It's alright, (Y/N). I'm sure we're safe here. You deserve to be safe," Newt sent her a reassuring smile before whispering goodbye and walking back to his table. Right as Newt sat down, Aris came back to join his twin.
"What did you tell him?" Aris asked a little annoyed that his sister had been talking to him for so long.
"I didn't tell him anything. We just talked." (Y/N) blushed and tried hiding it behind her hair like she did before. Aris had been the only boy so far she had talked to, so it felt nice and different for her to talk to Newt. She loved it, actually.
