I'm a hopeless romantic so I write stories about The Maze Runner's Newt or Thomas Brodie Sangster. Most of them are sweet but some are heartbreaking. Thanks for reading and voting! :)
I was lying inside my bed room in the homestead under the thin sheets. I had been under them for a week after I woke up from the changing. I was stung by a griever while running in the maze and fell asleep for two weeks.
The things I saw could make you loose your mind and to be honest, I had. The last thing keeping me grounded was Newt. He was the one who spent every second with me since I woke up comforting me. Clint and Jeff said I would probably he suffering from PTSD after the incident which made the other boys leave me alone for fear of making it worse.
I was curled under the sheets staring off at the wall opposite me. It had only a small dresser with six drawers against it since the rooms were very weakly furnished.
The door creaked open but I felt no energy to see who it was. I knew who it was. The person who's kept me through this whole thing. Newt.
"Hey love," he whispered kneeling on the ground beside me. He put his hand over my head and softly rubbed my cheek with a shy smile. "How're you feeling?"
I just shrugged. I hadn't spoken since I woke up. I was too nervous to speak. I wasn't sure how it would sound. I wasn't sure if it would sound like me anymore. I also wasn't sure what I would say. I wasn't okay. I wasn't anything. Just a hollow shell of my old self.
"Baby girl you've been under there a week. Don't you wanna shower?" I shook my head but left my eyes on his face but his looked around. He used his two fingers to rub his lips while his thumb sat under his chin as if he was thinking intently. "Wanna bath?"
When I didn't reject the idea, he took it as a yes. He pushed the sheets off me before sliding his hands under me. He carried me bridal style out of the homestead and to the single bathroom Gally built for me beside the boys showers and stalls.
A few boys looked at us but remained where they were, not wanting to speak to me. I knew they were worried they might set me off but I didn't want them to. I just wanted to stop being so... low? So... dark? So... dead.
"Here love," Newt whispered and set me on the chair beside the tub. He turned the water on and let it fill with warm water after pouring a few different scents into the tub. The box had given me some after I requested shower items such as razors, shampoo, conditioner and a soap.
He slowly undressed me and turned the water off since it was at it highest point. Newt held my hand as I stood up for my own and climbed into the warm water. It pierced my skin as I sunk into the water letting it cover my legs and lower body- leaving my knees and shoulders up out of the water.
"Do you wanna wash your hair?" He asked mentioning the rats nest on my head. I just ran my wet fingers over my head before putting them back into the water. "I'll do it for you. I can't let your beautiful hair look dirty."
I wanted to laugh. I did. But all that came was a small half smile. I didn't want to be so broken but that's what the changing does to you. I just hope Newt didn't think I was being over dramatic of something.
"There's no bubbles anymore. Chuck found them a month ago and pranked Gally with them," he explained while finding a small cup on the table beside the tub. I watched him intently, never looking anywhere off him.
He filled the cup with water before tipping it over my hair. The water dampened my hair while brushing over my dry shoulders. It felt nice. I played with my toes under the water allowing Newt to continue what he was doing. It was something so simple yet I found the most joy in it. It just showed me he cared.
He suddenly stood up and walked to the cabinet below the sinks and rummaged through things. He pulled out the small duck Chuck had carved out of wood and closed the doors.
He came back to me and sat the duck on top of the water between my knees and my breasts.
"Just something to touch. I'm sure Chuck won't mind since he took the rest of your bubbles." I poked the end of the wooden ducks back as it rested under the water before I released my finger, letting it bob back to the top. I smiled as I continued doing this.
Newt's POV
I had given (Y/N) the duck knowing it could, for moments, distract her mind. She had been through so much, more than any shank here, and something so simple as a small bath looked like it meant the world to her.
I smiled down at her as I saw how happy the little duck made her. She looked like a child. An innocent and unbroken child as she pushed the duck under the water and smiled as it popped back to the surface. She deserves even an ounce of happiness.
I finished washing her hair with the conditioner and shampoo supplied for her when she returned her attention on me. I took her fingers in mine and sat them on the edge of the tub.
"Enjoy yourself, love. I'll get you some food," I said standing up. But her fingers tugged lightly keeping me here.
"Wait," she croaked through a horse voice. This was the first time she had spoken in weeks and honestly, it felt like heaven listening to it no matter how it sounded. "Wanna come in with me?"
"Sure, of course my love." I took off my shirt and vest before taking off all the layers beneath me. She moved forward slightly giving me some space in the tub. I climbed in behind her and wrapped my legs around her body.
I put my hand on her hips and lifted her off the tub floor and into my lap. Thanks to the water, she felt like nothing over me. I grabbed her hands and intertwined our fingers. She rested her head on my shoulder not shortly after pecking my chin since that's as high as she could reach.

"Im sorry," she whispered catching her words with less scratchiness like before.
"No don't be my love. I'm gonna be here for you every second until you feel better. You shouldn't of had to deal with that." I pulled her closer to me and heard her breaths steady out. "I love you very much."
