Lying inside Newt's arms right now made this situation seem less horrifying. I could still hear the faint screams of the cranks in the distance and feel the aching of my burning exposed skin from the sun. But with his arms secured around my waist, I felt safe. I didn't think about the cranks that could attack us or the fact that we were being chased by Wicked. I was just his girl.

"Do you think they're still looking for us?" Aris asked from somewhere in the pile of us gladers. We had been running the entire length of today and it wasn't until nightfall that Thomas recommended we stopped to rest. We all practically collapsed in our places and made a small place for each of us to sleep. We agreed to continue running as soon as daylight broke.

"I don't think they're ever gonna stop," Minho's voice added into the mix.

I flipped around, still under Newt's arm, so I could face him. When I did, he had already been staring down at me with exhausted eyes. We all looked like that. We all were extremely tired of running. Running in the glade, the maze, the Wicked compound, the scorch. Never having a second to take a break long enough to recharge ourselves.

I slipped my hand into his hair and gently massaged his head. His eyes were trained on my face with pure admiration. The same look he used to give while we were inside the glade. He was always the kind of boyfriend to make sure you knew how much he meant to you. He was my rock, my light in this ever growing nightmare that became our lives.

"Go to sleep, love. I'll keep you warm," Newt whispered while moving his hand to take mine out of his hair. He slipped one arm around my waist and spun me around until I was again curled inside his body, being the little spoon.

The mixture of his warm breath on my neck and the butterflies rising in my stomach from the touch of his fingers on my bare hip made my body calm enough so I could close my eyes

The mixture of his warm breath on my neck and the butterflies rising in my stomach from the touch of his fingers on my bare hip made my body calm enough so I could close my eyes. My head was resting on my backpack which brought a slight cramp into my neck. For now though, I didn't care much because Newt's position was sending feelings of comfort into my body. With him, I was able to feel safe even when we weren't at all. I could sleep and forget about our problems, at least for a couple hours.

"(Y/N)! Newt!" Thomas's croaking voice yelled at us. He was violently shaking each of us before moving onto the others who were also asleep.

"What's going on?" Newt asked helping me up. Thomas pointed in the distance towards the direction we had been running for the past few days. Faint outlines of building windows lit up brought a smile to my face. Lights meant people, people meant rescue.

"We found it," I whispered looking over at Newt. Our small victory was taken from us when the bright flashing of lightning behind us made us jump. It hit directly on the ground without the accompany of thunder that usually followed.
