* This imagine was requested by PrincessofPugs I wasn't sure who you wanted it so I made it a Newt AU and I wasn't sure where you wanted me to go with this so I hope this is what you had in mind! Thank you for sending it in and I'll have the other one up soon! :) I know I never post twice in a day but I felt like I needed to pick up the slack since I have so many requests to fill! *Newt's POV
School was without a doubt, the most boring and draining place that ever existed. More specially, high school. Everything was boring, from the teachers, to the students, to the boring classes I had no interests in. Except for one. Music class.
It was sort of like a club, except the teacher gave us actual grades. The teacher, Mrs. Lively, practically let us do whatever we wanted for the hour and then smacked a 100 on our grades.
I was a quiet student, sitting in the corner of the class gently strumming the guitar so nobody farther than a few feet could hear me. I never socialized, so I watched the other kids do it in front of me. Still, nothing ever changed. Until today.
"Class," Mrs. Lively announced twenty minutes after the period began. "Today we are introducing a new musical talent. (Y/N)." I subconsciously gasped when the girl peeked out from behind Mrs. Lively.
I swore then I had never seen a girl more beautiful. Her (Y/H/L) (Y/H/C) hair was gently draped over left shoulder in a messy fishtail braid. The normal, ugly school uniform looked crisp and clean on her body, hugging the right curves and ignoring the bad ones. Her face had lightly done makeup to highlight the gorgeous, shining (Y/E/C) eyes I stared at. She was absolutely breath taking.
"Hi," she waved shyly, looking up from her feet. "I look forward to working with you!" The sudden energy in her voice sounded light angels singing directly to me. 'Come on, Newt. It's just a girl. You're blowing this out of proportion' I told myself.
"You can take a seat wherever you like. The kids normally just sit wherever and play whatever. You said you okay the-," Mrs. Lively left a pause for (Y/N) to fill in.
"The guitar." I glanced down at the guitar in my lap, my heart frozen. She played the same instrument as me.
"Well, we have only one other person who plays guitar in the class. You can sit with him. He's," she scanned the room until her eyes widened on me. "Ah, right over there. I'm sure you'll fit in just nicely." She gently pushed on (Y/N)'s back to guide her towards the rows of kids. (Y/N) walked down the row before coming straight towards me. She took the empty seat two over to my left and set her bag on the floor.
"Hello," I chirped, startling her a little. Her eyes returned to normal when she looked over at me, a smile curling on her lips.
"Hi. I'm (Y/N)," she said holding her arm out. I threw my arm out quickly, forgetting the guitar in my lap. It slid down my legs and I clumsily gripped it to pull it back, accidentally strumming the strings. The sound was loud enough to draw every eye in the room over to me. I would have been terrified if it weren't for (Y/N)'s soft giggles she was hiding behind her hand.
I set the guitar down quietly and held my hand out for her. "My names Newt." When she shook my hand, I couldn't help but notice the thin silver ring on her ring finger. On the center of the band was a small, light blue diamond in the shape of a heart.
"Did your boyfriend give that to you?" I asked without thinking. I internally palmed my forehead at the stupid comment. You don't just ask a girl about her boyfriend!
She laughed nervously. "Haha, umm, no... my mom gave it to me for my last birthday. I don't- I don't have a boyfriend." It was quiet pathetic how quickly my smile returned hearing her say that. That meant I had a shot with her.
"So, umm, we both... play guitar. That's cool," I stuttered over words thinking of any topic of conversation just to hear her sweet voice again. She smiled and looked down at my guitar.
"Yup. I've been playing since I was seven," she informed me while scooting into the seat closer to me.
"No way! Me too," I smiled up at her. Another moment of silence passed before I opened my mouth to ask another pointless question, but Mrs. Lively beat me to it.
"I don't mean to interrupt," she glanced down at the two of us before settling on (Y/N), "every Friday I let the students do a little number up front to showcase their talents. I would like to ask if you would be interested in doing it next Friday. That way you can show us what you've got but still give you enough time to adjust."
The 'showcase' was always the most energetic and egotistical kids showing off how good they can sing or play and instrument for the rest of the class. I always thought it was annoying since it was always the same ten kids over and over again. You can only hear the cover of 'I Can't Help Falling in Love With You' a certain amount of times.
"I-I just... I don't think I..." she was stuttering and blushing hard. She did seem like a very shy girl.
"I'll do it with you." Both the teacher and (Y/N) darted their heads at me. "I mean, I can play with you and you can sing. Just so that you're not alone."
"Is that alright with you, (Y/N)?" Mrs. Lively queried, hope in her voice. Mrs. Lively was a chill kind of teacher, but she still loved to hear her students perform. It warmed her heart to see students engaging in music like that.
(Y/N) looked at me, clear panic on her face but still nodded. Mrs. Lively cheered before running off to help a student who was calling her.
"What if I mess up and embarrass myself?" (Y/N) mumbled with her face in her hands and her elbows on her knees. I put my hand on her back and gently rubbed, unsure if I was helping at all.
"You won't. I promise you. We'll practice until our fingers bleed and our throats are dry." She laughed and took her face out of her hands. She looked up at me with a smile that could melt glaciers. She had this new effect on me that I had never felt, but I liked it.
-----
(Y/N) and I had found that after music class- our first period of the day- we had three other subjects together. In each one, I found some way to get her to sit by me even if it meant I had to bribe Kathy Leeds with my lunch for the next two weeks.
(Y/N) and I had instantly hit it off. Even that first day we met I had invited her over to my house to practice for next Friday's showcase- which happened to be today. She came over everyday after that for at least and our to practice before staying over to watch movies or play some games. She even became friends with my younger sister, Sonya, who wasn't in high school yet. She was fitting in nicely into our family.
Saying (Y/N) was nervous for this was an understatement. I could practically feel her thumbing heart when she talked. She didn't want to mess up in front of her new class mates since she did show up a month after school had started.
"You're going to do great. We've been practicing for almost two weeks. Everything's going to be okay," I reassured her with my arm around her shoulder. Even after walking into school together, she clung onto my arm enough to leave a handprint that I would worry about later; right now, I had to focus on calming her down.
Two kids had already sung two songs before Mrs. Lively looked towards (Y/N) to say 'you're next'. When she asked for us, (Y/N)'s whole body tensed, but she still stood up with her guitar in her hand.
We sat on the two chairs facing the other thirty students, with our guitars sitting in our laps. I whispered one more encouraging thought to her before sitting back up straight and waiting for her to begin. I was playing along with her but she would be singing. She wanted me to sing with her but I told her I had already done this before so it was her spotlight now, even though that was a lie.
/The way you move is like a full on rainstorm
And I'm a house of cards
You're the kind of reckless that should send me running
But I kinda know that I won't get far
And you stood there in front of me just
Close enough to touch
Close enough to hope you couldn't see
What I was thinking of//Drop everything now
Meet me in the pouring rain
Kiss me on the sidewalk
Take away the pain
'Cause I see, sparks fly, whenever you smile
Get me with those green eyes, baby
As the lights go down
Gimme something that'll haunt me whenever you're not around
'Cause I see, sparks fly, when you smile/(Y/N) had picked out the song saying she loved songs about romance and thought it had good guitar. I didn't mind it since it always brought a smile to her face. She turned to look back at me once we finished the song.
"You did great," I genuinely thought she did wonderfully, but I was a little biased because of my new giant crush on her. The students all clapped while (Y/N) and I returned to our seats in the back of the classroom. Mrs. Lively thanked us before allowing another girl to go up and sing.
"We did it," she gasped putting her head on my shoulder. "That's like a big weight lifted off my shoulders."
I laughed and put my arm back around her. I wasn't ever the brave type, but with (Y/N) I felt different. I didn't feel shy and closed off like usual. I wanted to show her how much she meant to me.
"You've got me with those (Y/E/C) eyes," I quoted the song we just sang, hoping she understood what I meant behind it. She smiled, looking up at with those dazzling eyes. She pecked a quick kiss to my cheek before our eyes met again. "And I see sparks fly whenever you smile."
