Mao x guard!reader

Woohoo, Liz the slow writer managed to finish another one in the weekend~ Never written about Mao before so I hope this is alright.

Sighing, you stared out of your office window. It rains pretty hard, and you're not exactly a fan of such weather. Luckily you checked the weather forecast yesterday, and brought an umbrella with you.

"Well, guess I should go now."
It was getting late. You stayed a little longer to do some extra work, but it was already your usual dinner time, so you decided to call it a day and go home.

You took the train to the stop closest to your apartment building. Upon stepping out of the train, you spotted a familiar cat guard, standing there.
"Mao? What are you still doing here? I thought you left more than an hour ago?" You asked your friend, confused.
"Oh! (y/n), I'm so glad to see you!"
As he hugged you, you took notice of how much he's shivering.
"How long have you been standing here?"
A lot of worry could be heard in your voice. Knowing how much he dislikes rain, you guess he's been here for quite some time.
"Pretty long. I'm so cold nya..." He whined, letting go of you.
You put a hand on his cheek, and indeed his skin is kinda cold.
"Your hands are warm..." Mao grabbed your other hand and put it against his other cheek.
"That's because I just came out of the train. Don't worry, I have an umbrella, so I'll take you to your apartment where you can warm up."

You opened your umbrella, and even though it wasn't a big one, both of you fit under it. If you walked very close to each other. But you both loved that. Though Mao a bit more than you.

A few weeks ago, he admitted to have a crush on you. The first couple of days after that, you didn't know how to deal with it. You felt a bit uneasy being close to him, as you didn't feel the same. But in the following weeks, you began to develop feelings for the cat. And until now, you still don't know what attracts you to him, nor have you told him about it.

"Thanks for bringing me home nya!" Mao gave you another hug after you arrived at the building where his apartment is.
"No problem. Now go inside and make sure to warm up, okay? I wouldn't want you to get sick."

Turning around to walk away to your own apartment, you heard Mao calling your name.

"Hmm? What is it? Keep it short okay, I have to go eat dinner or I might pass out."
"Yeah, yeah, I'll keep it short!" Mao hopped through the rain to be reunited with you under your umbrella. Putting his hands/paws on your shoulders, he brought his face closer to yours.
"I love you, (y/n)!"
Usually when he tried to kiss you, you'd push him away, or if you were holding something like a book you'd put it between you two so his kiss would land on said object, but this time, you didn't wanna avoid it. Not hesitating for even a second, you pushed your lips on his, and put your free arm around his waist.

You didn't like the rain, but sometimes... you loved it, such as right now. A kiss in the rain under an umbrella, that's pretty romantic.

"I love you too, Mao..." You whispered after breaking the kiss.
"(y/n), you make me so happy! Come eat at my place, so we can kiss some more later, okay nya? We're already here anyway!" Mao didn't even bother to wait for your response, and dragged you into the building.

"That sounds great, nya..."
