#64: How to; Deal with people's opinions
Everyone of us has our own opinions on different things and people. It's easy to tell people what you think about them, but what's hard is to listen to things people have to say about you. It's really hard to deal with what other people around you think about you. Whether it be a positive or negative comment.
In this tutorial I will hopefully help you in dealing with what everyone thinks about you. So by the end of this tutorial you should be able to know how to respond to good and bad opinions and just how to accept them.
----------------------------------------------------------
Some people are sensitive to negative comments and will spend hours thinking about it. Other's will just forget about it or reply with a defensive comment.
If you are sensitive about what people say to you or think about you, then you probably need to work on your self esteem. What other people say about you might be true, but honestly it shouldn't really matter to you. You are who you are for a very special reason and even though you think there's nothing about you to like, trust me there's plenty.
So if someone calls you ugly, fat or calls you weird, what do you do?
- You can ignore them, because who cares about what they think? Not you that's for sure! Well if you do care then I'll tell you now forget it. It's useless taking in negative comments that you don't need. It's not healthy for your mind.
- Tell yourself that what they say isn't true and you're perfect just the way you are!
- Don't reply or react to what they say, because that is exactly what they want. They want their bad comment to destroy you, they just want to hurt you. This is obviously because they aren't too happy with themselves and feel the need to put other people down to be happy.
If you do a presentation and maybe someone decides to give their opinion, telling you that some of the information in your presentation was wrong and maybe you weren't loud enough, then accept it. This kind of opinion is okay, you need people to tell you if you're wrong. You shouldn't get angry at that, you should just thank the person for telling you what they thought.
So just remember that there are two kinds of bad opinions; one is when the person is trying to bring you down and the other is when the person is just telling you because that's just how they feel. It's not because they hate you, it's just what they think.
------------------------------------------------------------
Now, dealing with good opinions that other people have of you, like compliments. If you have a low self esteem then it's not just hard dealing with negative comments but positive ones too. You practically brainwash yourself with all these negative things about yourself and then when someone compliments you, you don't believe them. You refuse to listen, tell them they're lying or you really just don't believe them anymore because you aren't use to hearing it.
If someone tells you that you are really pretty, nice, have nice hair or you're really skinny even though you don't think you are:
- You should just accept the compliments, it's really hard when you don't believe them yourself but you should. Don't argue with the person, be thankful they thought you're pretty.
- Thank them, compliment them back, if someone is nice enough to tell you that your eyes are beautiful, I think you should too or even just a simple thank you.
- Smile.
- Tell yourself that what the person said is completely true, feel good about yourself because you deserve too.
So basically I'm telling you that there are some opinions that we should consider even if they are bad, but you shouldn't listen to those comments that put you down for hours.
