Four-strand braids, Just the name sounds complex, but the braids are beyond fabulous. In this tutorial I'm going to show you how to create three different four-strand braids. All unique and simply wow.

What you will need:

A brush/ comb

Hairtie

Boby pins (Optional)

Classic Four-Strand Braid

Step One

Brush your hair, removing all the tangles and bring it to one side. I highly recommend you do this on the side of your head rather than the back if you are trying this for the first time. Also if it is easier, try it on someone else. Then divide your hair into four equal parts. If you have an annoying fringe like me then twist it towards the back of your head and pin it in place using a bobby pin. Cross the pins over to keep them in place.

Step Two

Label your strands as 1 2 3 4.  One being the one closest to your face and four being the farthest. Take strand one and place it under strand two, over strand three and then under the last strand. Make sure to hold all strands at all times.

Step Three

Now that the first strand you started with has become the last, take the third strand and place it under the second strand and over the first one.

Step Four

Take the second strand (since the first one is the one that you brought there by weaving) and place it under the third one and then over the fourth one. I know all this under and over sounds confusing but trust me, as long as you follow the steps you won't get it wrong.

Step Five

To complete the braid keep repeating Step Three and Step Four and secure it with a hairtie.

Braid in a Braid

This braid is created using the same steps as the braid above but looks so different and unique.

Step One

Brush your hair and bring it to one side, preferably the right side. Grab a section of hair near your ear, about an inch wide and braid it. Secure with an elastic.

Step Two

Throw the braid over your shoulder and divide the rest of your into three equal parts. Set up your strands the same way as the above braid but replace 3 with the braid. It should be hair, hair, braid, hair.

Step Three

Take strange one, place it under strand two, over the braid and under strand four.

Step Four

Take strand three (which now is the hair) and place it under the braid and over the first strand.

Step Five

Take the second strand and place it over the braid and under the last one. To complete the braid, repeat Step Four and Step Five. End the braid with a hairtie. If you do this braid right you will notice that you never actually move the braid anywhere, it's the other strands that are weaved around the braid.

Time for the last braid now. This one is my favorite.

Looped Four-Strand Braid. Yes I couldn't think of a better name.

Step One

Brush you hair and bring it to one side before dividing it into four parts. This braid is relatively easier than the other two and looks just as great.

Step Two

Label your strands as 1 2 3 4, with one being the closest to your face and four being the farthest.

Step Three

Take strand one and place it under strand two and take it under it around strand three. Now it should be the second one.

Step Four

Take the four the strand and place it under the third. Take it under the second and loop it around it so it becomes the third strand.

Step Five

Continue this braid by repeating Step Three and Step Four until you run out of hair and secure the braid with a hair elastic.

Author's Note

Thanks for reading. I know this tutorial is kind of confusing but I promise once you get the hang of it you'll be able to create each of these braids with your eyes closed. One thing I just wanted to say is if it doesn't turn out good the first time don't give up, undo the braid and start again :)

If you do try these braids and they turn out fab send me a pic on Insta @aamna_xo or comment how your braid turned out.
