The blades towered up as high as the Maze walls and they seemed as they were made from a metal of some sort.
"Minho, what is this place?" He turned his head back and looked at me as I threw my head around out surroundings.
"We call them blades." What a guess, I thought to myself. "They're not sharp and I've never seen them move. Then again, we weren't stuck in this part of the Maze overnight." As he said those words I remembered Newt telling me about when Thomas arrived. A few days after the box came up, with him in it, he decided to go into the Maze at last minute to help Alby and Minho. They were stuck out here all night.
"How do you know your way around here?" I asked, as I had no idea where we came from.
"I've been here over a hundred times." He stopped and faced me. I stopped also. "I think I know where I'm going." He smirked. As Minho was about to take a step forward, the ground shook a little and I a,most fell over.
"What the hell was that!" I yelled but Minho quickly put his hand over my mouth to keep me quiet.
"Shh!... Follow me." We walked further amongst the blades, taking soft steps each time. In the back of my head I could hear a really faint beeping noise, but I decided to shake it off. Until it got louder.
"Minho..." I whispered. "Can you hear that?"
"Hear what?" His reply sounded quieter than mine.
"The beeping?" He turned his head and gave me a confused look.
"What beep-" he was cut off by a large screech that bellowed through and in between the huge, metal blades. I fell to the floor and held my hands over my ears. My head started ringing.
"What was that!" I yelled, when the screeching subdued, my head and ears still hurting from the sudden blast of loud noise.
"I don't know, but I don't wanna stay to find out." He said. Minho sounded genuinely worried, and that was the first time I'd ever heard that in his voice. Just as we turned to walk back I heard something that sounded like metal scratching against metal. It made my ears hurt again. I swung my head back in the direction behind me and saw the most hideous creature I'd ever seen. Long, metallic legs. An alienated face. The body of a giant spider. The sunlight bounced off its features and lit them up along its path. It had a long face with a small mouth, but as it breathed I could see huge, sharp teeth dug into its jaw. Yellow flem dripped from its lips and it looked like it had no eyes. But I knew it was watching me.
"Minho..." I whimpered. He hadn't seen it yet.
"What." He said simply but softly, as he turned his head in my direction. His reaction was terrifying. He was so scared, so was I. "Listen to me. Look me in the eyes, don't look away, and walk towards me SLOWLY." He said this with so much calm in his voice yet inside I knew he was petrified. I took big, careful steps towards Minho as I heard metal footsteps gain on me from behind. "Come on blondie, nearly there." He reached out his hand and I grabbed it, then he took me in both his arms and whispered into my ear. "Don't stop, don't turn around, just RUN!" As he said the word run he let go of me and bolted forward. I quickly followed his actions and kept close behind him.
"Minho! What is it!" I yelled.
"That's a greiver, and they shouldn't be here now!" He said through breaths. We turned a sharp left and the greiver slid down the corridor we were running down before. Once we got halfway down this one, we turned a quick right and hid between some rocks. It was a tight squeeze but the greiver missed us. I placed my head on his toned chest and breathed out heavily.
"I thought those things only came out at night!" I said in a loud whisper.
"They're supposed to!" He shot back. Minho poked his head sneakily out of the little hole we were both hiding in. "Crap..." He quickly pulled it back in.
"What?..." I stuck my head out, only to see the greiver standing at the end of the corridor. "Crap..." I repeated after Minho. "What do we do! If he looks in here, he's gonna see us!" I was beginning to panic.
"Just wait until he's not looking, then we run."
"Oh great plan genius! Couldn't think of anything smarter!" I flailed my hands in small motions as my voice got increasingly louder. Minho hushed me quiet quickly but retaliated with a loud tone of his own.
"Where the hell do you think we get out names from! I am a runner, therefore I run." He stuck his head out again to look at the monster. "And now, might be a good time for it!" He pushed himself out of the hole and darted back in the direction we came from. I didn't want to be left here with that thing so I quickly followed.
"Shuck. Shuck. Shuck!" I cursed quietly at myself, as I felt my chest get tighter. Minho took a quick right as we got further down the corridor. I followed but heard the deathly scream of the greiver behind me. He'd noticed, and was coming for us.
