It had been a long day, packed with lots of homework and stress. But it didn't even come close to the things that went on behind closed doors.
"YOU LITTLE BITCH! DON'T TALK BACK TO ME!" Your father screamed, shaking you violently. Tears streamed down your face, breaking your mental barricade.
"P-please..." You whispered after he shoved you to the ground, kicking you in the jaw before leaving.
The car's engine slowly faded, leaving you to drown in pain. Slowly rising to your knees, you rubbed your bruise and crawled to the bathroom.
Foundation...foundation...you searched for the makeup in fear. If your dad got another call from the school, you'd most likely wake up with a broken arm.
A knock echoed through the house, followed by the voice of your neighbor, Token Black. "Y/N? Are you in there?"
"Yes, be there in a second." You muttered, scrambling to the door. It creaked open, the dark-skinned boy peeking inside.
"Are you okay? I heard screaming-"
"I'm fine." You answered with a shaky smile. "Great, as a matter of fact."
"What's that bruise?" He pointed at your chin, examining it with his chocolate brown eyes.
"Nothing. I tripped on the stairs."
"Y/N, I know your dad is abusing you. C'mon, let's go to my house..." Token urged, grabbing your arm.
You pulled away, trying to hold back more tears. "No. I can't."
"We'll put him in jail where he belongs, I promise." His fingers intertwined with yours, resulting in a tight hug.
"Token..."
"It's okay. We're gonna take care of you." He said as you cried into his shoulder. "I love you Y/N."
Later that day, Token's mom called the police and your father was arrested, charged with child abuse. He was sentenced to 40 years in prison, and you never saw him again.
Token himself took care of you, comforting you as memories came back, allowing you to cry into his sweatshirt, even crying along with you at times.
And why?
Because he cared.
