And before they can come to terms with who they really are and stop being afraid of what they're capable of, the Rogue Prince finds them. It takes them a age to realize that no Targaryen saved them. They were fostered in secret because Targaryens simply saw the value in each of them for personal and political means. It's not until another prince truly sees her and makes claims on her misplaced loyalty to those who are from deserving, or a princess disappointed in her father and cousin-mother attempts to cast off the yoke from her own shoulders when she encounters him, that either of them acknowledge the way that these conquerors stunted them at a critical point of growth. Now it's time to decide for themselves what they want.

So yea this is slightly AU least concerning Netty's origins -- even though Fire & Blood aint really strict far as the timeline/storyline go -- ofc you can stick w her canon origin story the main differences are Tlaloc who she can meet and bond w later and the fact that she can survive fire which I don't think's really AU bc I don't remember that ever being denied necessarily
Anyways in case it was unclear in addition to Netty and Aemond being a thing the other main ship here is our OC and Baela and in case you aint feeling either FC I got plenty more ideas/back-up FCs lol there was a whole buncha lotta deliberation there (e.g. I REALLY wanna see Kelcey Mawema play Nettles, or maybe Zuri Reed or Khailah Johnson but aint no way I'm finding period-type media of either of them shoot it was hard enough just getting a Dakota GIF)
And the title's from that Black Sails line "now I wonder maybe Jack took something from me that I was supposed to figure my own way out of" lol bc there's a Black Sails gem for every occasion
