When Ragnar walked into what he later learned was a monastery, he saw it as the greatest gift. In the midst of killing the men there and razing the place, he looked into the eyes of the very young woman freeing herself in the chaos and she saw it as Hel. His new friend, Athelstan, refers to her as a heathen, a savage, but all he sees is a magnificent warrior who can only fight with him to bring him to his goals. As the earl only allows him one, he saves Athelstan for himself, but it doesn't take much to convince Floki she's a valkyrie who needs somebody to vouch for her.
From there it's easy to add her to the people he values and trusts most, she's motivated to fight for the man who found her and raids Northumbria and although she refuses to speak it she understands some of Athelstan's language. Her only weakness is her youth and her susceptibility to his brother's advances.
Over the years the two treasures he discovered in that monastery become his most loyal warriors at least until his former wife brings his son back to him. Ragnar takes more family with him than ever to lands richer than he's ever been to. But more riches mean more dangers and challenges, and Ragnar's being pushed to his limits by his own people; he needs to teach Bjorn while trying to reach his own goals, he can't trust Rollo anymore, Banuqa being with child due to his brother makes Ragnar doubt her loyalty, Floki's betraying him, his wife and children are drifting away from him, Lagertha has her own ambitions, and Athelstan's leaving him. And three kings from different lands and the challenges from outside are endangering his ability to lead and control his people.
LITTLE EXTRA : Like most characters on this show, Banuqa's changing a lot -- she starts off in the Vikings storyline with the monks imprisoning andtorturing her in a super old- school conversion but ofc you don't have to start when the Vikings pilot starts
So yea, Banuqa is a historical character but her history's complex you can include elements of Al-Mahdi and her backstory or you can make her your own OC
Oh and Banuqa and Rollo do smash, he does knock her up, but he still goes on with his canon story making his family and legacy and everything in France
- And Bjorn's about to be entirely too fucking cute with pregnant Bani and her kid later on, they're fr the sweetest family unit in their universe
